Are you a "pro forecaster" or a "pro whiner" ? Can't have both!

Isn't it funny how people that don't live in hurricane prone areas think this season has been a dud? Meanwhile, in Florida all anyone can talk about is how active this season looks like it may be. Having 4 oranges in the Atlantic was enough to be the top story on the local news tonight.

This season may have 6 named storms if franklin forms. Last year we were only at colin. lol and two depressions. And then there are 3 other invests. 2005 had 13 tropical storms that didnt reach hurricane status. We all saw what happened last year. I really dont see this season being a dud especially if all the invests become named storm which would give us nine tropical storms already. This season has been active. Like a poster mentioned above, better to see something than nothing. Im guessing a dud to some people is a season without a major hurricane hitting the U.S or a hurricane not forming by August. I wonder about 2004 when people say a season has been a dud. Then when Charley, Frances, Jeanne, and Ivan happened. Yeah.

Hi, everyone.

Very long time reader/lurker ph34r.gif but have just signed up today. Hurricane season is kicking into high gear and I have a SLIGHT obsession with the weather. I'm on other weather forums, but personally I think this may be one of the best. Looking forward to getting to know you all and learning from you. :)

Welcome aboard. We're glad you decided to join us.

Well thank you very much! I am glad, too. I should have joined years ago, to be honest. Not quite sure why I haven't. My friends all look at me like I'm slightly insane when I fly off the handle about in depth weather information. I need somewhere where everyone else is as weather nerdy as I am!

Any current observations you would like to share with me?

On second viewing, this is NOT 93L in the Caribbean in 10 days on the Euro...

This evening's run (18z) of the GFS paints a picture similar to that of the Euro, a quickly developing tropical system getting ready to cross the Yucatan Channel, meanwhile the nothern stream cuts off a low pressure across the plains...the synoptics at the end of the run paints a very interesting scenario for the Northern Gulf Coast Region if you extrap. past hour 384.

A shame that a good grannycane name like Gert will likely be wasted on a POS fish storm. Josh might end up with an unwanted Harvey in his portfolio...although the best play would be for that mandarin to spin up to Harvey, then Irene explodes in the Carribean.

Ha ha, my thoughts exactly. I would so dig a Gert or an Irene-- Harvey just sounds so nerdy, and I'm worried I'll get stuck with that one. But then again, if Harvey is a good, chaseable cyclone, should we care what it's named? I should just be grateful for a chase.
