E PA/NJ/DE/NE MD/Elko, NV : (Not During Storms) OBS Discussion/Banter Thread

I am ready to hang it up on thunderstorm development for our western Lehigh County. The storms that Mt. Holly stated as a special statement this evening that are 45 miles west of Wilkes Barre will most likely never make it to us in one piece. The slow splitting death syndrome is killing the storms already and they are not even close to the county lines. Poor Hazelton ( Voyager) area is going to get more rain. If this was only winter they would have 3 feet of snow on the ground. Can we just get one cell to develop over night and stay over us for more than 10 minutes?thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

THE DOVER AFB DOPPLER RADAR...KDOX...WILL REMAIN DOWN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE FOR MANDATORY MAINTENANCE. THE RADAR TOOK A LIGHTNING STRIKE SUNDAY AFTERNOON... WHICH TOOK OUT A POWER SUPPLY. TECHNICIANS NOTED THAT THE NEW POWER SUPPLY COULD ARRIVE AS EARLY AS MONDAY...OR AS LATE AS WEDNESDAY. ANOTHER MESSAGE WILL FOLLOW AS NEW INFORMATION ARRIVES. -B HURLEY

I am near Rt 100 and Spring Creek Rd 2-3 miles from Yoccos. Near Breinigsville and Mertztown. Still no significant rainfall

I know that area very well. It's where the new Rt 100 alignment meets up with the old at the railroad tracks. We delivered many tons of screenings on the old right of way at the Trexlertown Rd light for a slurry seal project.

Gotcha. Lets see if we can get a solid line of showers/storms thru the region today.

seriously, shut the hell up. It's summer for crying out loud, it's not supposed to rain every day. If it did you would complain about that too!

Oh but look, Macungie and Mertztown are getting hit with a strong thunderstorm right now! The strongest portion of the line in all of E PA is about to hit you! How about a little less complaining please?

Oh look, what else is new, Grothar is DEAD wrong yet again. You really need to post MUCH less, and read and observe more, because the amount of whining you do, with having little to no knowledge or facts to back it up, is frigging ridiculous. Just like you keep saying how we're going to have a busy tropical season up here, because of how hot it is. That's frigging laughable. If this post doesn't get you 5 posted, I don't know what will. Stop mucking up our threads with your crap. I don't care if this is a banter thread or not. And people wonder why this subforum is a laughing stock sometimes, it's because of posts like this.

Steady rain and occasional thunder here.

yesterday afternoon the golf course got .2" while I got nothing here at home. Driving it is 4 miles, so straight line is probably under 3 miles.

I am always amazed at the cutoff you get with thunderstorms.

Raining here now though, which is nice.

It is amazing. Glad that today's precip. is more broadbrushed in nature. Like I said, I don't need a 4 inch deluge or 70 mph winds, just a few hours of steady rain once every 7-10 days.

Meanwhile it is weakening as it tries to cross the river into New Jersey, especially the southern part. At least I got three decent showers yesterday. Maybe I will luck out and it will redevelop later this afternoon. ;)

Glad you got your rain. Having a thundershower now. Just enough rain to finally say we had a decent rain. To thunder road and smokeeater:

1. Both of you need to chill out, this is a banter thread.

2. I was posting a joke on the special statement. This is not whining

3. Of course I was dead wrong- it was a joke

4. To state that I have little knowledge or facts is dead wrong. My degree is in physical geography. Basically that is where meteorology courses were concentrated in the 70's. I have worked as an air traffic controller and natural resource conservationist. What is your backgrounds and knowledge?

5. My tropical prediction for our area is not on the hot weather as much as weather history. In 1955 we had record highs in July and then in August we had Hurricanes Connie and Diane that flooded the hell out of Eastern PA with flows on the Delaware and their highest levels and many people were eventually killed. I was making a comparison. By the way two hurricanes does not necessarily constitute a busy tropical season

6. Yes, I will be the first to admit that I b**ch a lot about the lack of rain for my area but rightfully so. The rainfall is absolutely needed to supply the bottling companies that rely on this valuable resource. You may have drank this water and beverages such Pierre, Niagara, Deer Park, Desanti, Nestle, Samuel Adams Beer, Coke, and Kraft Juices to name a few. These are bottled and produced with ground water in Fogelsville and Breinigsville. Also the city of Allentown and Western Lehigh County rely on this same water and the Little Lehigh Creek Water is a precious resource for Lehigh County and a lot of jobs rely on it.

7. Its good to laugh and this is what makes this subforum enjoyable to read

Just pointing something out here. Take a look at us down in SE PA and SJ and such. You got a decent rain event, and we're about to get shafted down here. But are we making posts about how the storms will rain themselves out to our west? Nope. You really shouldn't make a whining post right before you are about to get some decent rains. Just saying.

If you have the knowledge like you say you do, you would of saw that your area was going to get some good rain today; instead of posting that you have given up on rains and don't believe in mt holly rain chances.

I don't know. I guess I saw the humor in the post, even though up until this point we only had 2/10 inch since June 27th. Anyway, I got 1.80" from the rains today.
