John, I think that's because the CIN is just too much and therefore the parcel cannot rise and generate CAPE.

I do see what you are saying, but that's my best guess.

that's what i was thinking but i just don't recall any specific text written anywhere that describes that. it would seem to fit as explanation though, because tomorrow - wow. that's likely an 11 on the 1 to 10 scale of day.

A quick look at LI's says the atmosphere is extremely capped..so that might be it. Ridging moving in at the surface and aloft.

Not bad up here in the hills... 74/53 Pool is outstanding... of course I have been cleaning the basement for the last few hours, so I haven't dipped into it yet.

Scott - Here's the run down - perhaps this is my own ignorance in play (wouldn't be the first) but someone please explain this...

1) Full parcel presented...

post-904-0-15560100-1310222204.jpg

2) Top part of troposphere magically disappears at 4pm today (maybe the end of the world was really this Saturday and not that deal a month ago?)

post-904-0-00722400-1310222233.jpg

3) One hour later ... no parcel exists at all...

post-904-0-15962600-1310222247.jpg

4) This persists until Monday at 12pm, when it suddenly comes back

post-904-0-98902800-1310222218.jpg

Is this expected behavior?

sounding one is conditionally unstable with a cap, CIN and CAPE are displayed.

sounding two has no positive area (CAPE) above the cap at 6kft. Dewpoints have dropped over the hour.

sounding three has no CAPE nor CIN and is not conditional unstable therefore the parcel lines aren't shown.

sounding four shows increasing BL moisture therefore CAPE and CIN exist again.

Yeah, I know "what" it is saying; I didn't realize it stopped plotting all together in those cases. I don't recall the earlier versions of the app doing that.

oh well -

Heavy heavy cool down mid week.

Yeah, it still doesn't look right to me though -

Just look at how massive a negative domain it has encompassing higher latitudes - it's tough to drill heights down this way when that's the case - right through the ridge wall, when the amplitude out west isn't supportive either.

Hmm.

I have no issue with frontal passage but that just looks way overdone.

Hmm...well I don't think it would plot the negative energy part of the parcel in the absence of CAPE...I don't remember seeing it plot the negative area above the equilibrium level, either. Perhaps you can drop Ed Mahoney at WDTB an email if you are interested more about the programming and the specific display settings.

The EC ensembles aren't too far off either. Maybe not widespread 8C 850 temps, but Wednesday night into Thursday night should be refreshing I think. Good rad cooling Thursday night.

OKC is currently at 109F, tied for the sixth hottest day on record

We hit 90-91 here but it still doesnt compare to this period in July 1993 when we were over 100+ for two to five straight days depending on the location (JFK-2, NYC-3, EWR-5 with two in this series at the all time record of 105 and NINE 100+ for the whole summer.)

On this day in 1993 NYC hit 101, JFK hit 101 and EWR hit 104.... with two more days of 100+ to go, after having experienced two in the previous days.

Yeah, I remember that stretch like it was yesterday lol-- that ended on the weekend too-- and the last day the low temp was in the mid 80s and it was already 90 by 8:30 AM here and rising like 4-5 degrees per hour on the way to 102 in the city and here and 105 at Newark. The sunlight had a distinct orange color to it all day.

100% sunshine and 74F now. I was out all day, but the highest my thermo recorded was 74.5F. Gusty nw winds out here in the fields help temper the searing July 9th sun.

Uhh no... LOL Gotta go out and fill some horse hoof prints and then I'll come in and shower ..if anyone cares. The beasts got loose a week ago and galloped across my lawn wrecking havoc. Kevin would have been apoplectic if it happened to his lawn.

A normal day for most Americans...........did you shower when you got home?

Well by Thursday we will have gained 13 minutes of darkness in the morning. That might help a bit with the morning lows. :snowman:

71/61, breezy and absolutely beautiful outside. Really just perfect air out there right now. With any luck we'll continue to see a lack of hot temps. Good news about the loss of daylight. First frost talk will be here before you know it.

I'm picturing a thundering stampede of 500 horses and Kevin trembling in his garage sitting on a bag of Lesco fertilizer.
