getting some pretty good gusts from this clip storm....looks like I'm missing the best though as it heads toward Gaston. Raining hard though, with very close bolts.

Lightening was very close, actually had it run in on the satellite which messed it up. Got .47"

Well, nothing from all that promising radar. All the storms washed out as soon as they passed Raleigh. Looks like it'll be a week or so before another legitimate chance of anything. At least it's cloudy now. Glad to see some of y'all getting something today.

What a day!

Here in Wilmington, NC we set a new record high of 101F this afternoon...and this evening we've got SPIDER LIGHTNING!

Large storm complex was heading straight for the Cape Fear area then split; half of it vanished off radar and the other half shifted northeast towards Pender county. Robbed of rain here on Cape Fear, nature made up with a great light show!

(For those not familiar with "spider lightning" it's clusters of horizontal streaks blasting outwards from a storm; at times filling the entire sky. It can really be quite the show!)

EDIT: New record high today of 101 was re-broken later in the day....to 102F

Wow--heck of a storm here in Rock Hill. Not a lot of wind or thunder and lightening...but a TON of rain. The airport officially got 2 inches in an hour--parts of the city got over 3. Lost power here for 2 or so hours--after the storm came through. Not sure exactly why--but there is a good bit of flooding around town.

Great Lightining Show but very little rain..

EDIT! you see that too! M-FAN? that was F***in AWESOmE!!!!!

Definitely awesome...and rare (don't hold your breath waiting for the next show, lol.)

Did you notice how exceptionally brilliant the lightning was? Watching the sky from my 2nd floor open stairwell with wide, clear view, it was as if bits of magnesium were being ignited.....a quick super-white small flash followed immediately by 6, 8, or more streaks - streaming out in every direction away from the storm.

At times, there were two "ignitions", each far apart in the sky but combined would entirely fill one's field of vision with an array of outward moving streaks.

Awesome? Absolutely!

I'm excited about our rain chances the next few days for West Georgia and East Alabama. We have a boundary to our south, kicking of showers and storms in the Gulf of Mexico the past couple of mornings, a backdoor frontal boundary that will be the focus of the activity this afternoon. We are stuck in between, in a rather warm and sauna like air-mass meaning scattered showers and storms will rule the day this afternoon. Tomorrow and Saturday morning will see off and on rain. This will cool us off a great deal! I'm only forecasting highs in the upper 80s the next few days for Columbus and surrounding areas. Of course, if you see a little more sun, you will be a tad warmer than those who don't.

Like all good things, this will come to an end by Sunday. A ridge starts building across Missouri (per Euro and GFS) bringing HOT conditions well into the Northern Plains. This will slowly build across the southeast by the middle part of next week, with highs in the upper 90s as 850 mb temperatures creep back above 21 C.

Video I took of yesterday's lightning:

There were some anvil crawlers on the backside (although not truly crawling like some do but some great spider lightning none the less).

Keep in mind this is shot at 210 fps (7x the frames at 7x slower speed than normal).

Hit 100 again yesterday just before the clouds/storms got going. Of course they missed me as usual. This morning storms to my southwest and west but aren't moving.

I know one thing, I'm getting more than a little irritated with the nws and the radars going down every single time there is a storm near by me. Not a damn thing wrong with the radar all morning and then when these storms pop up, the more than irritating black sign pops up. This has been a frequent problem of late and I wish to god they would fix it.

You got some excellent shots there! Nice work.

I don't know about the NWS radars uptime on their site but my radars have been working the whole time. Link is in my signature if you want to use it the next time the NWS web site radars go out.

Lookout, it it individual radars going out? Which one?

You know you can view the status of all NWS radars here: http://www.daculawea...xrad_status.php

I see Huntsville is down due to mechanical failure.

Plus, on my Google radar loops, there are usually multiple radars to fill in he holes, just use Chrome or Firefox, there's a bug in IE that causes annoying errors.

Here's Georgia: http://www.daculaweather.com/ridge_georgia_master.php

I noticed this problem as well....one time it was just stuck...for like 30-40 minutes without an update...and yea...seems to be more of those black screens each afternoon.
