I didn't ride the thermometer all day, but the hottest I saw was 91.7, and within a half hour, or around 3ish, the clouds disappeared the sun, as has been the daily ritual, and it was down around 87, My idea of a wonderful result via a heat advisory. I don't care if I never see 100 again...ever!! I've lived thru enough consecutive days of no breeze and 100+ temps to have me glutted forever. I'm loving the new GFS temp disorder...just wait until all those surprise snow/sleet events when it was supposed to be 8 degrees warmer, lol. Larry, I'm calling for 2 major sleets and a big, huge snow where it should have been 33 and rain :) T

I can hear the moaning and groaning now. Just add it to the list of complaints that will be raised with the winter GFS runs.

Here's my call from yesterday, and today's official highs. I missed east Tenn. badly, and nw GA, thanks to some rain around. The only sites I nailed exactly were Athens, Macon and my own town (93).

Foothills, you can miss on E TN anytime w/ heat potential running around on the map such as it is. Actually, we were all shocked up here today. Rightfully so, we had all been warned by the NWS. We set a record high of 95F yesterday. So, things seemed to be falling into place for a scorcher. We were indeed prepared to fry today. Last night, some pretty strong storms rolled through and just seemed to suck the heat right out of the atmosphere. We had cloud cover for much of the day today. Most people were relieved to get a break. Also, getting some rain was big as well - July used to be a banner month here for rain. I'm looking forward to winter just so I can feel a cool breeze that doesn't come from my AC.

After today it looks like a nice break from the excessive heat is on tap for my neck of the woods atleast through Sunday/Monday, then it should crawl back in. Of course I'm anxiously awaiting that first real cold front that usually shows up the first week of October, but beggers can't be choosers.

Gonna be interesting to see if Japan can escape a hit or ride up its coastline by a typhoon in a few days!

Well, we did it! We managed to TIE the record high minimum this morning! The low this AM was 78, which tied the 78 degrees we saw in 1991... Fortunately, the ridge is already weakening and we won't be nearly as hot this afternoon, even with a little more sunshine. Another piece of good news, we are going to enter a wetter pattern over the next few days. The combination of the back door front and the trough in the Gulf of Mexico will increase our shower coverage Thursday and Friday.

The not so good news is both the Euro and GFS appear to bring back some heat to areas of the Deep South. This could put many of us back into the mid 90s, but with the axis of the ridge forecast to park itself over Missouri, we should avoid the worst of the heat.

After a high of 100 yesterday here, the low this morning was 77..which is quite extraordinary for me. Even during the hottest of heat waves, it's rare to stay above 75 where I'm at. Last evening was just brutal as far as heat goes though, had HI's well into the 90s at least until midnight. It felt hotter to me at 10pm than it did at 4pm because of the higher humidity. It was just unreal.

And we are off to an incredibly humid start again. Temp is 83 with a DP right now of freaking 78. I feel for those with any sort of lung/breathing conditions...it has to be incredibly difficult to be outside.

I agree with FFC that my area should hit 100 again today. There is some high level cirrus but it doesn't look like it's going to be enough to help very much. Thank god this is going to be the last very hot day for at least a little while. The difference between this heat and some of the prior heat waves we have had is the incredibly high dewpoints. It's one thing to hit 100 with dewpoints in the 60s like we often do, but it's another to hit it with dewpoints in the mid to upper 70s..and in some areas close to 80.

I sure am glad we aren't like texas/dallas though. No end in sight to their endless parade of 100 plus degree days and lows in the 80s, not to mention there isn't a drop of rain in sight either.

Luckily, Columbus managed to stay in the mid 90s (96 was the official high). The clouds and early morning fog certainly helped that out! However, today, we aren't so lucky with the sun already heating us up to 86... I grew up in Florida, so the high dew points aren't THAT cumbersome for me, but the HOT temperatures are... I've been here 9 months and we began June with 102 and have had about 4 or 5 since. We've managed to stay below 100 so far, though the one day I forecast the middle 90s (today) will be at that century mark :axe: .

I really feel for the folks in Texas though... Even Fort Smith, AR managed to reach 108 yesterday! I wouldn't want to be out that way this time of year....

Augusta is already up to 90 F as of 10 AM! HI is already 103 F. That is a serious heatwave and a very tough summer overall.

In the Savannah area, Hunter AFB is already up to 89/78 with HI of 102. It feels miserable outside. I'm staying in A/C as much as possible. The good news is that it is even too hot for the no-see-um sand gnats. Savannah was up to a miserable 98 F yesterday.

Tony, help!

I only just ticked up to 85 a minute ago. There are enough clouds up there to make me think the daily ritual will continue this afternoon, so I'm guessing I'll only see low 90's again. As for breathing, as a sufferer of C.O.P.D. ( thanks to an air bag blowing apart in my face....did you know there are over 20 carcinogens in the dust in an air bag? But I digress..) I can attest to the fact that breathing is more difficult in this kind of weather. It is like breathing underwater in a very hot tank out there. I have taken to carrying a fan around with me, on a long extension, when I'm working in the yard at various chores, and it sure helps, having air blowing across you. I wish I could just be lazy and stay in the air conditioning, but I have so many things to accomplish outside, I just can't make myself stay slack :) At least here, my saving grace has been the bust on high temps. and the afternoon cloud build up with occasional rains in mby. T

Edit: Sea breeze, Larry, sea breeze!!

I know, I know...it is so hot you are drawing a blank, lol. Up two degrees here in the last 45 minutes. Right at 87 now. T

 For some reason it doesn't like the way I copy/paste and multi-quote sooo.... here is the link https://www.facebook...ce.Columbia.gov It's the 85+ deg consecutive days record from last year...just wondering if it will be broken this year :( I'm glad they started a fb page, now I can ask them why they think the way they do :huh:

Is it really that hot?

Yes......................................... it is :(

:hug::P

EDIT: 98/76 HI 112 :weight_lift:

Today will be the 47th consecutive day above 90 here at CAE. :weight_lift: 8 more days and the record is broken....can it happen? Stay tuned.....

I think Friday and Saturday you won't do it. The streak is coming to an end for all of us east of the Apps and even down to northeast Alabama and most of GA as well. A decent damming 1020 high will sit over VA and the mid Atlantic Friday and Saturday before sliding out to see and maintaining southeast onshore flow, which will bank much cooler moist air over the Carolinas and Ga, especially western NC region where its really going to be cool and damp, similar to a CAD, but the summer version. The GFS has low to mid 60's dewpoints coming down, and then saturates that air quickly. Many places would be in light rain Saturday morning with much cooler damp air, around 70 CAE, upper 60's upstate and western NC, even low to mid 60's for the mtns of NC Saturday morning with probably steady rain there. Won't that be nice! So both Friday and Saturday look much cooler and damp...even has low 70's for highs here Friday, during the middle part of the day, which would be nice. Usually the southwest corner of NC and extreme northeast GA does very well in this setup...with 2 inches of rain, maybe more in some spots. But any convection that can get going near the front will nearly train in Ga and SC I think closer to the boundary, but we can fine tune that later. The onshore flow in SC and GA should be enough to give a pretty widespread rain

I'm running about 2.5 degrees ahead of yesterdays pace at this same time. 94 might be reachable for me. But...storms have already popped just north of Chattanooga and are moving SE so hopefully stuff will pop this afternoon.

Yeah, I'm going with 93 or 94 also. I only just hit 89 about 1pm, and the clouds are up there and thickening. I like seeing high temps bust to the low side anytime, but now is a great time :) T

Foothills,

When do you think our chances of storms this afternoon start? I check the temp water in my pool sitting at 92 degrees but feels better than the air itself. Hope everyone drinks fluids and stays cool !:sun:
