Tropical Storm Arlene Tex/Mex Local Chit Chat

i understand concern over taking away activity off the main thread, but we can test this out as a type of reliever thread for us texas and mexico folks who want to shoot the breeze about arlene and its more local impacts. it may not be busy, but i figure this way local arlene discussion will be more easily recorded and then searched for at a later date. obviously, the more important information, forecasts, etc. should be posted in the other thread (though they can also be brought up here).

BRO page on arlene:

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=bro&storyid=70129&source=0

rain bands already affecting far southern texas and obviously much of the mexican coast

My hope is that this will be the first of a few TS that can begin to ease the drought that has plagued this important agricultire region of TX and MX. Hopefully a nice few days of steady rains without the slides and deaths....you guys really need the relief and I pray that you get it.

...HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS ALONG THE SOUTH TEXAS COAST TODAY...

.TROPICAL STORM ARLENE...LOCATED OVER THE BAY OF CAMPECHE...WILL

CONTINUE TO MOVE TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST TODAY. THIS SYSTEM HAS

CONTRIBUTED TO PERSISTENT LONG PERIOD SWELLS OVER THE COASTAL

WATERS. THE COMBINATION OF THESE PERSISTENT SWELLS AND MODERATE

ONSHORE WIND WILL CONTRIBUTE TO A HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS AND

MINOR TIDAL OVERFLOW ALONG SOUTH TEXAS BEACHES TODAY AS WAVES RUN

UP TO THE DUNES IN SOME LOCATIONS.

INCREASING LARGE SWELLS AND ONSHORE FLOW WILL PROVIDE A HIGH RISK

OF RIP CURRENTS TODAY AND THURSDAY ALONG SOUTH TEXAS BEACHES. IN

DUNES IN SOME LOCATIONS. AREAS NEAR AND ALONG THE PADRE ISLAND

NATIONAL SEASHORE WILL BE ESPECIALLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO MINOR BEACH

A miss for most of Texas, but I'm sure the farmers in the RGV don't mind.

This, from the weather.noaa.com site for MMMY doesn't seem correct.

Precipitation Amount 2.05 inches In the 3 hours preceding Jun 30, 2011 - 09:45 AM EDT / 2011.06.30 1345 UTC 12.85 inches In the 6 hours preceding Jun 30, 2011 - 08:40 AM EDT / 2011.06.30 1240 UTC

I hope it isn't correct, anyway...
