Memphis Weather
holy crap That's a radar dealiasing failure. While that doesn't mean a tornado is not there...that shouldn't be inferred directly as strong rotation that would be producing a tornado... cyclone77
The outflow boundary out in front of the storm is slowly settling south and may help develop the storm a little further south as it continues east over the next hour or so. Wouldn't be surprised to see it build far enough south to impact at least the northwest half of Minneapolis with very strong winds.
andyhb
I can imagine what would be happening if they had stronger helicity/shear in the area...
tornadotony
I can imagine what would be happening if they had stronger helicity/shear in the area... Probably nothing because that would indicate stronger WAA in the area and likely cappage...
Chicago Storm
I can imagine what would be happening if they had stronger helicity/shear in the area... The storms are being driven by a strong disturbance and have high helicity and shear values in the area.
andyhb
My mistake, I guess what i meant to say is low-level shear and helicities.

MN Transplant
My brother in the western Minneapolis burbs estimated 50+ mph winds with the outflow boundary. Flying Cloud airport confirms, with a 46kt gust. Quite a healthy gust front.
baroclinic_instability
My brother in the western Minneapolis burbs estimated 50+ mph winds with the outflow boundary. Flying Cloud airport confirms, with a 46kt gust. Quite a healthy gust front. Just talked to my parents in Annandale up in Wright County. That area just got puliverized when that bowing line cyclonic north end passed through then collapsed. Huge trees down--boats on the lake have been completely thrown off the boat lifts. Stebo
LOT might want to look into this. Taken at Waukegan Harbor last night: http://blog.chicagow...rth-harbor.html If that is for Waukegen then yeah that is pretty obvious as to what that is... and there was a fairly good couplet at the time. The question is, whether or not this is on shore or off shore there. Based upon the locations of the boats in relation to the google maps imagery of Waukegen Harbor, this would probably be more NNE and close to shore but probably on land.
