Hello Central/Western posters:

I'm Ryan and I'll be moving in to Valparaiso University a month from today, and I wanted to introduce myself since I'll probably be crashing over here while I'm at school.

(Hoosier or whoever can feel free to move this if it's not in the right place, but you all don't seem to have a thread for pointless banter like we do in the Philly subforum so I'm guessing this is a good place?)

Welcome, from one Ryan to another.

Hope Valpo treats you well and you get hammered with some good LES events.

Welcome to this side. We typically do not need pointless banter threads, but that is generally a good thing.

I like your photo and sig under it, but if you ask me the truck should have NAM on the front.

Eh let's see how the NAM's upgrade performs first.

I actually thought of that idea when I saw a GFS truck at Valpo and laughed out loud. Apparently Gordon Food Services provides food for a lot of businesses and colleges and whatnot...I don't know of any NAM trucks...

Well then I assume given the state of college food that statement could apply to both meanings of GFS.

Lot honking on heavy rain potential tonight, e.iowa up along the wi/il border does look good if an mcs can materialize, although like many recent scenarios, forcing is somewhat lacking.

EDIT: Did some looking around and the 0z 4km WRF seems to have a decent handle on the on going action and blows up a really efficent slow moving w/e MCS from central Iowa into southern Wisconsin, slowly drifting south into extreme northern Illinois. Confidence is growing that there will be a stripe of 2"+ from northeast Iowa to MKE. Possible the target area shifts south some but probably not north.

2 months from today and the AVG high temp is down to 70 and we won't see an avg high of 71 again for over 8 months.. Less than 4 months of avg highs in the 70's is about as good as it gets when breaking things down to the 4 seasons. MKE - the 4 seasons capital of the southern MW :guitar:;)

Bring on some of that rain and lets nip any drought in the bud before it gets going.

You are sick. Considering 70F is the general baseline for human comfort.

This heat is quite pleasant, thank you.

How is he sick? You're sick for enjoying the weather like we had yesterday and this morning. I like heat and humidity only if thunderstorms are likely to result, or if we have a chance to reach a significant milestone like 100F. Otherwise, the heat can stay away.

LOT

TSRA APPROACHING RFD HAVE HISTORY OF GUSTS INTO MID-30 KT RANGE.

A BOUNDARY EXTENDS EAST-WEST TOWARD THE CHICAGO TERMINALS.

POTENTIAL FOR ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT ALONG THIS BOUNDARY IN THE

NEXT 1-3 HOURS...UNTIL THE FRONT PUSHES FURTHER TO THE SOUTH.

it is starting to get that look on sat, anything that does pop will have plenty of instability but should remain isolated.

No real good place to put this I suppose, but I tallied some of the longest 90º+ day streaks from the WL COOP (1901 to 1963) on my blog recently. I did the LAF ones (1964 to present) earlier in this thread I believe.

We're at 5 and counting right now, with the next 4 being a lock. Tuesday and Wednesday of next week look like the streak may end, but barely. We'll see. Anyways, the numbers...

21 days: July 10-30, 1901 (peak temp of 104º three days)

20 days: August 7-26, 1936 (peak temp of 101º two days)

19 days: July 25-August 12, 1935 (peak temp of 98º)

19 days: July 18-August 5, 1940 (peak temp of 101º)

18 days: July 30-August 16, 1944 (peak temp of 98º)

17 days: June 29-July 15, 1921 (peak temp of 98º two days)

17 days: June 16-July 2, 1933 (peak temp of 99º four times)

16 days: July 25-August 9, 1931 (peak temp of 99º)

16 days: July 14-29, 1934 (peak temp of 110º two times)

16 days: July 3-18, 1936 (peak temp of 111º)

And the longest streak of days with a high temp of 100º+...

13 days: July 5-17, 1936...104º, 103º, 108º, 109º, 103º, 107º, 108º, 110º, 110º, 111º, 105º, 101º, 103º

Parts of IA/IL/IN/MI/OH/WI have been place in D0 (Abnormally dry) on the Drought Monitor...

post-147-0-33591400-1311304229.gif

Wow. Detroit saw its 5th snowiest winter on record (69.1"), the 2nd wettest spring on record (14.60").....had a deluge of a storm on July 2nd, and yet a blob of yellow is creeping into S MI. Just crazy what a little hot weather can do.

Doesn't surprise me. We have had two precipitation events this month basically, one of which was during a period where rain wasn't originally forecasted. The derecho last Monday represents about 80% of our July rainfall.
