I read somewhere about a cold December in the early 1880's...I think it was December 1831...It averaged 22.2 on Governors Island...I have monthly average temperatures from 1822 to 1868...Precipitation from Jamaica Queens from 1826 to 1864 and from Central Park from 1865 to 1868... The coldest months from 1822 to 1868 are... 19.6 January 1857... 21.5 February 1836 21.9 January 1856... 22.2 December 1831... 23.8 january 1840... 23.9 February 1855... 23.9 February 1856... There were some hot Summers back then also...nine years after the year without a summer July averaged 81.3 in 1825...

I think Don S included it in his book also. I believe some of the cold spots on Long Island may have been down to around -30 either then or the 1934 outbreak.
