TJay
I've been cooking a family dinner all afternoon and haven't paid attention to the radar. Like Andy said, its coming soon. It's at our door.
gravitylover
Well one can't get too greedy. LOL Snowcane type event is very rare. I imagine 12-20 east of the river and maybe 12-16 from Orange to Ulster is realistic...tapered down to 10 or 12 at NY/PA/NJ triple point. That's what I'm saying. No greed going on at all. I actually didn't allow myself to get my hopes up for too much because this kind of storm isn't supposed to happen in the strong nina (blah blah) and figured it would be cool to see a few inches and some wind. Don't get me wrong this is really nice to see! Anyway, I don't really expect much over a foot where I am so your E of the river estimate may be just a bit high. I'm hoping you're right but... Back on track - The wind is absolutely howling now!! I think I'll go out for another walk then come in, open another beer, make dinner and light a fire. Wx4cast
Thats a hopeful sign Jay, I was concerned since I don't recall have good snow totals with the snow structure I've had all day. Andy says not to worry so I won't What would cause the wet graupel type snow some of us have had all day? Warming in the upper layers? Probably this (warm layers), dry layers and weak vertical motion. Also from an isentropic perpective ( a bit technical) my apologies you actually had winds descending DOWN these surfaces (negative lift) vs. going UP these surfaces. That will be changing soon. Somewhere between 6 and 7 on the ground now, but it is impossible to know for sure due to the drifting and blowing snow. Some really intense snow coming down now.. Just epic. TJay
Think thundersnow is a realistic plausibility for the MHV? There have been some high intensity returns from L.I. in to CT heading west/NW but no lightning detected yet then again it might be sleet mixed in.
