mappy
My husband is currently exploring open source GIS solutions and wants to research a project using historic tornado data as a subject matter. He would like to identify all existing interactive tornado web maps, static maps as well as get suggestions from weather lovers on what they would want from an interactive tornado map. He has asked me to do a little weather research on what is already being done with regards to tornado maps (beyond the basic NWS surveys). We are looking for current websites that have this type of information, interactive or static, so we can see what has been done. Any information or links that could point us in the right direction would be fantastic. Suggestions are welcome too! Thanks
mcalvert
http://www.tornadohistoryproject.com/ This is one map-driven historical tornado website that I've used in the past.
thewxmann
For most purposes I use SeverePlot3: http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/online/sp3/plot.php An ideal tornado map would be what SeverePlot2 used to be: simple, fast, toggle display F rating on tornado, summed up counts of EF0-5 and path length after each search (total path time would also be nice).
