Ian
HRRR has some storms around later. It's usually wrong but if you want to worry, worry about the low getting screwed over by rain.

Its likely going to be IMO that our high will be intrahourly... and we will have to wait for the 6 hr obs today to see what temp we reached

Nikolai
Elevation, concrete, asphalt are my main guesses. Yep. & the fact that today is historic, plain and simple (JFK has already passed 100 apparently, they issued a record statement). Just went out to grab some food and heavy heavy deathing outside in NYC, just brutal. This is definitely the most historic heat I have ever seen, as it's not just NYC but the entire coast... I'd bet most stations will be 100+ come noontime (and it's ridiculous how relatively consistent all the major city obs are as well). Only got down to 84 last night in NYC... barring rain, should bottom out around 85-87 tonight, ditto for DC (maybe slightly lower). Just INSANE.
