Ian
I love the righteous indignation. Like they don't realize that they have a reputation. Basically, if you are linked by Drudge and have a comments section, a bunch of wackjob conservatives are going to post there. Jason probably should have just closed the comments on that thread. I hit Drudge every day usually several times a day. But the comments are embarrassing. It reminds me why I don't post at freerepublic anymore -- oh the follies of youth. I posted, but looks like it was censored or comments were cut off Did you reply to someone or just post? If you used links it might have hit the spam filter. You should ask for a WaPo badge. MN Transplant
I posted, but looks like it was censored or comments were cut off daihbidhCould it be the 'Heat Index' has been substituted for actual temperature because the global warming scare is fizzling out? An actual temperature of 105 isn't unusual for DC, historically. This 'objectified subjective' way of measuring temperature helps keep the doomsday scenario in the news. Note that it's the NOAA feeding these 'heat index' temps to the media.

It reminds me why I don't post at freerepublic anymore -- oh the follies of youth. Yeah, I do too. I think the funniest is when he links to the Movie Box Office report. You go to the site and people are discussing what flopped, etc, and then you can tell the minute that Drudge linked it because it switches to how Hollywood is a liberal conspiracy to turn us all into Muslim Communists. On the other hand, Jason (or whoever) titling the page "Shock forecast: " is right out of the Drudge playbook. Might as well have put the rotating police siren up there. Still no climo report on the day. Odd. edit - Fark.com has now linked to the blog post also

Still no climo report on the day. Odd. I'd never even seen these maps till last week... now they are everywhere. Jason knows how to play the game. One reason among many he got the job. I'd stay clear of "shock forecast" because it has no search engine value but in a case like this you clearly don't need it. I think it is at least slightly unfortunate that weather has become so tabloidy, but that's a broader personal issue than this.

MN Transplant
It will come out at 7pm with a 5:22 timestamp on it Must be the AWIPS upgrade that Kml referred to in the "official" obs thread. Speaking of which, there are going to be a lot of obs posts over the next few days about the heat. Should they be directed here, the general obs thread, or should I re-title the contest thread? Ian
i think it's fine here, tho sometimes it's nice to split off the bigger events... but this is pretty much a catalog of the summer heat save some of the beginnings of it.
yoda
Warrenton/Stafford are going to be two more stations that will likely show hotter temps then they should due to the DP's being too high as well... Stafford is 93/82 with a HI of 117 and 97/79 at Warrenton on the 5pm State Weather Roundup And are even more laughable on the 6pm one... some of these stations Warrenton -- 97/81 HI 117 Stafford -- 93/84 HI 121 Though EZF is 93/81... meh

MN Transplant
I'm sorry, some things are too good to just get posted in one of the subboards. Moorhead, MN, just outside of Fargo. seems about 5-7 too high When the corn isn't ruining our rainfall, it is jacking up DPs in the midwest. I was wrong, it was sugar beets and soy beans that helped 88° DP in MN yesterday. http://www.crh.noaa....=71074&source=0 First: The AWOS is surrounded by Sugar Beets and Soy Beans - two of the most prodigious transpiring plants. Second, there was very heavy rainfall Tuesday morning across the region. This rain served to saturate the local soils and encourage plant growth. Plus, under the sensor is 4-6" high clover in flower (clover you would find in your yard, not the crop), with much ponding water within a few feet of the sensor as well. Third, when compared to the Automated Surface Observation System (ASOS) at Fargo's Hector Field the maximum dew-point was 5 degrees lower, peaking at 83 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour only. In looking at the data from the surrounding stations, several of the North Dakota Agricultural Network Stations (NDAWN) had similar readings. At face value, this supports the Moorhead dew-point of 88F. However, the NDAWN stations are located in such a way as to measure the moisture of the crop canopy environment, not the atmosphere. So, on the one hand if the dew-point did hit 88 degrees Fahrenheit, resulting in a Heat Index of 130 degrees Fahrenheit, it was not because of true meteorological effects but because of an agricultural bias.
