Master of Disaster
T-24 hrs before we initiate the dreaded cooling center discussion. These are about as bad as the dry ice discussions during Hurricane season. A fail fail kind of thing where only the homeless use them, but politically, it looks good while libraries are free to the public and so are shipping malls to use. Ian
IAD could threaten the all time record (104) even subtracting a few as it usually runs high in guidance. I added IAD stats to my 100-degree stuff http://www.ianlivingston.com/2011/07/11/100-degree-days-at-washington-d-c-and-baltimore-md-yearly-counts-seasonal-average-and-extremes/

I added IAD stats to my 100-degree stuff http://www.ianliving...e-and-extremes/ I am gathering we have little chance of doing that at DCA... I believe its 107? Thursday no records should fall.. IAD maybe an outside chance (less than 20% IMO). friday and Saturday IAD should break the records for the day... DCA should as well... BWI will be tough

I will write it down. I see a max of 104 really for DCA Friday... not sure we can reach above it.... though the GFS really likes bullseye our area with the 24c 850T countour... and I am sure there will be some 25c... yoda
Balt has had marginally more extreme heat than DC. True... I am just not sure I can pull the trigger for calling that kind of heat there... just like when the 06z GFS tries for a max temp at IAD of 107 -- thats not likely to happen. We'll see
yoda
Very highly doubt it will happen -- but state record is 110 (though apparently there is some debate still that it might actually be 109) http://climate.virginia.edu/va_extremes.htm

We'll see none of these numbers are that likely if they occur.. once in decade/s events. but iad almost always runs hot in guidance.
MN Transplant
The four-day observance of the 150th anniversary of the First Battle of Manassas begins Thursday morning, July 21, at the Manassas National Battlefield Park. Although the event takes place in Prince William County, thousands of actors are expected to participate in the reenactment as well as countless visitors in attendance. Ugh. Forgot that this was this weekend. Was reading a story in the Post about how the "actors" that come hope they aren't the ones that die early in the battle, and then have to stay on the ground for 90 minutes. Imagine that in this weather in full dress.
