Ellinwood
I think the most stunning aspect is that every GFS member takes us to at least 101 on Friday. The mean for Friday is 103.5 from the GFS and 104.0 from the ECMWF Though that may be a little extreme...

I hear you but I still can't stand that kind of heat and I expect these types of heat waves/hot summers are increasingly likely in the decades ahead. PrinceFrederickWx
I kept saying this summer was gonna be super hot. I don't understand why so many people forecasted a nice, cool summer here this year.

Multicolored line on top is Heat Index. Precipitation plume is on bottom with clouds shaded in white. Scales for each are on the right side.. usedtobe
00z raw ensemble high temp ranges for Thu-Sun (7/21-24) at DCA: GFS: Thu: 92.2 - 101.6 Fri: 100.8 - 106.7 Sat: 92.2 - 105.0 Sun: 89.7 - 105.4 ECMWF: Thu: 91.6 - 105.9 Fri: 92.9 - 108.6 Sat: 94.3 - 106.7 Sun: 88.1 - 105.5 I'm confused about the two numbers. What is the number on the left and right. Is one the ensemble mean and the other the raw data from the operational model?

But he did say except for one burp the lowest number was 98-99.
mappy
im a bit myself.. never made it to 100+ with A/C still working in my condo yet. Ours died (for the third time this summer) last week. The apt complex said they put in a new compressor and its been working great. But, being on the third floor, with our a/c unit on the roof... it may be an issue come Friday. ThreeRedheads
well I hope we both survive haha I hope your a/c doesn't crap out on you. Better have a contingency plan. I wonder how the power companies will perform with the increased demand. Dominion sent me a flyer asking me to participate in the SmartCool program. During high demand events, they cycle your heat pump off for 4 hours. No thanks. http://dom.com/dominion-virginia-power/customer-service/energy-conservation/smart-cooling-rewards.jsp

ThePJM electric grid hasn't been put to the test region wide like this for a while, plus it's a working day. The last time I experienced 100+heat like this was in Ohio during the late 80s...and the power kept kicking out during the day.
