Looks as if another storm has developed just east of downtown Louisville. Looks like good rotation too.

By the way, welcome to the board.

If that second cell is dropping a tornado, I hope people in the Anchorage/St. Matthews/Lyndon area are aware, since the first storm took the same path. They may have let their guard down.

EDIT:

* AT 907 PM EDT...TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTERS REPORTED A FUNNEL CLOUD

NEAR LYNDON...MOVING EAST AT 25 MPH.

Strange, strange weather situation unfolding in Louisville. The local TV mets tonight were saying the severe threat was minimal since the temperature didn't get as high as originally forecast. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, training supercells right over Louisville.

Thus far there is one confirmed tornado which hit Churchill Downs. Damage to several of the horse barns. Many, many funnel cloud reports.

If they where basing severe weather on what the temperature did, that is a poor job of forecasting. I've seen severe weather outbreaks in areas that only reach 70 degrees.

Well, that is what they were saying. That the daytime heating didn't occur which was the expected trigger.

And now, there's a third storm, over Louisville showing some minimal rotation. Heading in the same basic direction, West Louisville, over St. Matthews and out toward Anchorage.

And yes, I thought it was a poor job of forecasting.

Severe thunderstorm warning finally issued for the county west of me. The storm is moving into my regional municipality shortly. Skies look fantastic, so does radar presentation.

You would think a Tornado Watch (or at least a T'storm watch) for all of northern Kentucky will be issued soon. Looks like a nice squall line is developing.

You would think. I live in Frankfort, about 50 miles to the east of Louisville. Trying to figure out if these storms will hold together as it comes through here.

WAVE-TV is saying there is a gas leak around Churchill Downs and that some of the horse barns are so damaged that horses are actually trapped...:(

Also, getting some reports of another tornado touchdown in Bluegrass Industrial Park/Middletown area. Both highly dense areas of Louisville.

Wanted to add my opinion on this situation-

Crazy situation over Louisville. The northern edges of every cell scraped where I was, and the first set off the sirens which was surprising to me. With respect to the SPC, while I understand the difficulties of forecasting situations like these, I don't appreciate how they are showing almost zero interest in this area... not even a Mesoscale Discussion! More hook echoes still popping up on radar, too.

Hopefully they will have a proper review on this incident.

Yes, this is very, very strange. I keep thinking they expect the storms to die out, but they aren't.

I think the SPC is a bit surprised by all of these rotating cells over north KY - as well as the local office. Obviously some sort of boundary induced event - would have to look back at the radar from earlier this afternoon or visible images

The supercells were smaller than and allm over a thin boundry. Not suprised models couldn't resolve these features.
