Stevo6899
If they dont fizzle out... they shouldnt and that will bring a nice drenching Grand rapids up to Saginaw having a busy severe weather summer so far.

OceanStWx
ramping up quick on the northside, going to lose some trees in the park me thinks. That brief storm merger seemed to set it off. ORD 55 mph gusting to 70 on minute data, still could go higher than that.
smoof
Grand rapids up to Saginaw having a busy severe weather summer so far. Just had my 5th severe warning this year 45m nw of Saginaw nothing special IMBY so far this year, just some 40mph gusts and nice thunder and rain (which I need since I just replanted some of my garden hehe)

Stevo6899
Once again dtx confuses me. They waited until there were warnings to issue a tornado watch. Kind of defeats the purpose.

You guys still have some nice Instability in SEMI via the latest spc meso analysis so I see why they issued the watch right around 2000 mixed layer cape..... Indystorm
I will say that it is rather unusual to have a strong squall line moving through Chicago metro from south to north instead of coming from the west or northwest.

TheWeatherPimp
SPC issues the watches... Ultimately the counties included in the watch is at the discretion of the local WFO - DTX expanded the watch locally to include the Eastern half of the CWA after the storms started pushing East/warnings started being issued. I believe that is the point he was trying to make.
dmc76
Once again dtx confuses me. They waited until there were warnings to issue a tornado watch. Kind of defeats the purpose. I was kind of confused by that as well until I seen on radar a very small rotation in cell over Rochester but it was short lived. Well anyways great lightning show got about 0.25" and my 50 second downpour. Looks like the Sterling hts area recieved about 1.5" of needed rain in the last hour
Powerball
SPC issues the watches... But in collaboration with the NWS branches. That's why DTX wasn't originally in the watch despite the SPC's mesoscale discussion saying a watch would likely be needed for its CWA.

You're not alone. I knew when I chose to go on vacation the active weather would come while I'm gone. Two severe thunderstorm warnings and a lot of rain (which by itself I can pass on, but it is interesting nonetheless.

Chicago Storm
Ended up with a wall cloud around Sugar Grove/Kaneville. I then pushed north with 60-65mph winds here. Several <4" branches down, though there are a few bigger than that. Power is also out in some areas...it did go off here for a time.

Any chance we'll see anything like what they saw in Chicago tonight? IF we get some sunshine tomorrow we should be primed for severe storms in MI..... but the whole sunshine question is the biggest problem........this whole storm system may be too strong where it tosses out clouds too much for a great storm setup..... With not much nocturnal QPF expected and a slightly slower fropa, definitely could get some decent storm development during the early/late afternoon from Michigan down through Indiana and Ohio.
