AtticaFanatica
In reality, cells start out going along with the 850mb-300mb average wind (or something like that). They turn to the right given some circumstances-- development of a mesocyclone is one of those circumstances. Goes back to the ongoing debate about whether storm rotation leads to propagation in a particular direction or if a storm derives its rotation from the direction it moves in. Ed Lizard
Good. They need the drought relief. All of Texas does, but the widespread rains predicted today for the Houston area have failed to materialize. The Grimes County fire which has destroyed almost 40 homes, winds down, humidity up, but hoped for rain has not materialized.

Justin
I watched the nice mid level dry punch come in here and then bam just off to the NE out over whiteside county in IL the radar almost immediately responded with the huge cumulonimbus I was seeing showing up on radar, it didn't take long. Impressive dry punch also showing up on water vapor imagery.
