Somewhat surprising news from TX

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN FORT WORTH HAS ISSUED A

* TORNADO WARNING FOR...

NORTHERN PALO PINTO COUNTY IN NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS...

SOUTHEASTERN YOUNG COUNTY IN NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS...

* UNTIL 915 PM CDT

* AT 845 PM CDT...TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTERS REPORTED A TORNADO NEAR

POSSUM KINGDOM STATE PARK...MOVING EAST AT 45 MPH.

* THE TORNADO WILL BE NEAR...

GRAFORD AROUND 905 PM CDT...

Just passed Sean Casey and the TIV.

Congrats! Wish I was out there.

My chasing's done for the season unless there's a weekend or local evening chase. Too much crap going on at work unfortunately.

Looks like the morning MCS train held on just long enough to keep northeast Illinois and northern Indiana from destabilizing as much as they could have. Surely would have been some nice sups out that way with more instability. As expected further to the west in our area the mid-level ridging and increasing H7 temps kept this part of the warm front idle. Even with decent destabilization. Some elevated showers continually try to pop in this area, but that's about it.

First guess would be a MCS to come rolling through in the morning, then clearing and possible svr storms in the evening.

That is, if the area clears out quick enough. We were sunny by mid afternoon after this morning's MCS.

...TORNADOES ACROSS PARTS OF SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA THIS AFTERNOON...

A SEASONABLY STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CENTERED NEAR THE NEBRASKA

AND KANSAS BORDER HAS RESULTED IN SEVERAL TORNADO REPORTS

THIS AFTERNOON INTO EARLY THIS EVENING ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTH

CENTRAL NEBRASKA.

ALL REPORTS OF TORNADOES THUS FAR SHOULD BE CONSIDERED

PRELIMINARY...AND NWS PERSONNEL WILL BE OUT INVESTIGATING AND

CONFIRMING VARIOUS REPORTED TORNADOES OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT

FEW DAYS.

THROUGH 730 PM...THERE HAVE BEEN TWO DISTINCT CORRIDORS OF TORNADO-

PRODUCING STORMS ACROSS THE AREA...ONE FOCUSED WEST OF HIGHWAY

281...AND ANOTHER EAST OF HIGHWAY 281.

FOR THE WESTERN AREA...TWO TO THREE DISTINCT SUPERCELL STORMS

PRODUCED SEVERAL TORNADOES GENERALLY ALONG AN INTERMITTENT TRACK

EXTENDING FROM NEAR LONG ISLAND KANSAS IN PHILLIPS COUNTY...NORTH

THROUGH THE STAMFORD...ELM CREEK...PLEASANTON AND ROCKVILLE

NEBRASKA AREAS. SOME OF THESE TORNADOES WERE REPORTED TO BE WEAK

AND BRIEF...WHILE OTHERS SUCH AS THOSE BETWEEN ELM CREEK AND

PLEASANTON IN BUFFALO COUNTY WERE REPORTED TO BE STRONG WITH

DAMAGE REPORTED. THIS ACTIVITY STARTED NEAR LONG ISLAND KANSAS

AROUND 300 PM...WITH ONE OF THE LAST TORNADOES REPORTED NEAR

ROCKVILLE IN SHERMAN COUNTY AROUND 500 PM. AGAIN...THESE WERE NOT

CONTINUOUS TORNADO TRACKS.

FOR THE EASTERN AREA...A SUPERCELL STORM BECAME TORNADIC IN THE

STOCKHAM...HAMPTON AND BRADSHAW AREAS AROUND 520 PM...AND PRODUCED

TORNADOES NORTHWARD THROUGH THE WESTERN POLK COUNTY AREA UNTIL

AROUND 620 PM...WHEN ONE OF THE LAST TORNADO REPORTS WAS RECEIVED

FROM APPROXIMATELY 8 MILES WEST OF OSCEOLA. THE FIRST TORNADO

REPORTED IN THIS AREA LIKELY CROSSED INTERSTATE 80 NEAR THE

HAMPTON EXIT...AND DISSIPATED AS IT MOVED NORTH OF HAMPTON. A

SECOND...AND LONGER TRACKED TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN NEAR BRADSHAW

AROUND 540 PM...AND LIKELY REMAINED ON THE GROUND FOR SEVERAL

MILES NORTHWARD INTO WESTERN POLK COUNTY. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT

SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE HAS OCCURRED WITH THIS TORNADO.

AGAIN...ALL OF THIS INFORMATION SHOULD BE CONSIDERED PRELIMINARY

AT THIS TIME...AND CONFIRMATION OF ACTUAL TORNADO TRACKS AND

TORNADO DAMAGE WILL BE INVESTIGATED AND REPORTED OVER THE COURSE

OF THE NEXT FEW DAYS. AS TORNADO TRACKS AND INTENSITIES ARE

CONFIRMED...THIS INFORMATION WILL BE RELEASED IN FUTURE PUBLIC

INFORMATION STATEMENTS...AND ALSO POSTED TO THE TOP OF THE NWS

HASTINGS WEB PAGE AT: WWW.WEATHER.GOV/HASTINGS

A LISTING OF PRELIMINARY STORM REPORTS CAN ALSO BE FOUND AT THE
