June 17th-22nd severe threat

2.7 I noticed the wording "THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION" in some of your watches. What does this mean? What is the criteria for a PDS watch?

The "particularly dangerous situation" wording is used in rare situations when long-lived, strong and violent tornadoes are possible. This enhanced wording may also accompany severe thunderstorm watches for exceptionally intense and well organized convective wind storms. PDS watches are issued, when in the opinion of the forecaster, the likelihood of significant events is boosted by very volatile atmospheric conditions. Usually this decision is based on a number of atmospheric clues and parameters, so the decision to issue a PDS watch is subjective. There is no hard threshold or criteria. In high risk outlooks PDS watches are issued most often.

Ah, thanks. So they did away with the 2 EF2/1 EF4 guidelines. My apologies.

I think they've handled this stuff well. If this was over Philly it would definitely need a PDS. Nebraska, maybe not so much but lets stop complaining and track some storms.

Ha it doesn't matter whether it's in Alaska or Nebraska...it's a particularly dangerous setup that could lead to possible strong tornadoes. An F3 is an F3 at the end of the day

SJT has a really interesting warning template...

STORM HAZARDS INCLUDE...

WITH POSSIBLE STORM IMPACTS...

Some of this really long impact list stuff is contradictory though...it talks about destroyed manufactured homes then later says roof damage to manufactured homes. It also mentions overturned vehicles...then a few items below...dented vehicles. Doesn't look effectively employed...

A simple "this storm may cause extensive damage" would probably be just as good, or better

Large dusty tornado crossing hwy 283 north of hill city KS earlier today. Will post a few of the real pics late tonite.

Great shot!

Towering CU trying to go west of my house. Radar echoes showing up now, we'll see if these remain discrete ahead of the developing squall line, if they maintain themselves at all.

Is there a link online where I can see this live?

Depending on your IP, ESPN3.com has it. However, they have since cut to Sportscenter and aren't live in Omaha. I'd imagine you may be able to see it on ESPNNEWS when they show highlights of the Florida/Vanderbilt game.
