pazzo83
Looks like EWR (31) and NYC (32) reached freezing temperatures this morning. LGA (35) and JFK (33) not so lucky. CPK didn't hit 32.

nzucker
You once said you live at one of the higher points in town. Thus because inversions generally develop on cold clear mornings when the atmosphere is stable, it is not surprising that your temps don't fall off much. Always remember that a valley floor will be colder than a high spot in that situation... Yeah it's really impossible for me to radiate as I'm at the top of a massive hill at 350' elevation. Sundog
Dude, CPK is a common abbreviation for Central Park. As SACRUS mentioned, we missed by half a degree. Don't they round that? I've never seen an official low that wasn't a whole number. There must have been many times where the official low was 32 but it was actually a bit above that. snowman21
Don't they round that? I've never seen an official low that wasn't a whole number. There must have been many times where the official low was 32 but it was actually a bit above that. New York Central Park, NY did indeed reach 32F for a low at 727 AM EST. See today's climate statement. Besides, I doubt the METAR was wrong when it said the low was 32F for the 6-hour period ending at 12Z. There are no fractions or tenths of degrees in ASOS. ASOS reports 5-minute average temperature in Fahrenheit rounded to the nearest degree. Because the METAR standard uses Celsius in the main body, that integer Fahrenheit temperature is converted. The T group in the remarks section gives you the fractional Celsius number just so you can get back to Fahrenheit. Otherwise we'd have temperatures skipping roughly every other degree in Fahrenheit (i.e. no 31, 33, 35, 38, and so on). Often people take that fractional Celsius temperature and try to infer tenths of Fahrenheit which is not correct and leads to double temperature conversion error. This is why when you convert those tenths of Celsius degrees you always end up with tenths of a degree Fahrenheit of .8, .9, or .1, .2. 000 CDUS41 KOKX 042137 CLINYC CLIMATE REPORT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY 437 PM EST SAT DEC 4 2010 ................................... ...THE CENTRAL PARK NY CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR DECEMBER 4 2010... snowman21
Bangor, PA HIgh of 35 today. Nice, legit., winter day. Reached the low-40s here, but hardly felt like it especially during the times when we had a lot of thick mid-level clouds and a breeze. Definitely going to feel like winter this week. We just need to get in on the fun the Great Lakes states have had.
