ArtRosen
Whatever it is, it sure is beautiful. Got this from Jim Cantore's Twitter which was a RT. What the heck is this?
The Great Zo
It sort of looks like the whole thing is concave (going up) -- like it's some sort of wave.
wederwarrior
undulatas...? real cool looking wave moving left to right?
isohume
If it wasn't rotating...it was probably a scud cloud, but who really knows without seeing it in a time lapse or in a broader context? Scud clouds can take on some ominous or smooth shapes depending on the llvl shear/buoyancy. The apparent striations are interesting tho...and these wouldn't be seen in a gravity wave cloud. Perhaps it could be a roll cloud too. Cool pic. Sorta similar scud clouds...
NaoPos
If i were a betting man, i'd say thats a gravity wave. too smooth and proportional to be a SCUD
tmagan
Highly unlikely that it was a tornado.
Stebo
Looks like some sort of a wave, probably a gravity wave.
BadgerWXman
+1 gravity wave
Msalgado
As the smoke from the wallow fire passed over some of the mountains in NM here it developed a lot of gravity waves much as you see in clouds over those same mountains. I wish I'd had a camera with me when I saw them yesterday because it looked amazing.
Master of Disaster
Kind of reminds me of this only this was a confirmed tornado in Slate Run PA a few weeks ago.

ArtRosen
Couldnt agree more, especially considering how the base fans out. I think the more we try to understand tornadoes/landspouts/waterspouts/cold air funnels/cold core tornadoes the more questions we come up with only because there isn't just *1* type of tornado. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that much like a snowflake, no two tornadoes are identical.
eekuasepinniW
I have this in my saved images folder and don't remember who originally took it. Most ominous looking scud I've ever seen around here... I live on the other side of those hills.
