Stormlover74
Actually I'm pretty sure it was a line too. Maybe not the one that came in June/July but the one in September hit my office building in midtown as well and was a pretty potent line moving through NJ link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/spamdude060/5378002511/ I thought it was a line. I stand corrected by Yanksfan and Trials. My bad.
Quincy
Driving northbound on 684 10 miles south of Brewster. OCNL CG lightning to the north.
TheTrials
the stuff that will eventually cross the nyc metro just not impressive right now. To the right, to the left, looks good, especially that stuff that raced out ahead towards Danbury. Need to see the middle of that line re-energize. Sundog
I captured the line from last September on my iphone. You can see it bowing clearly. Here it is:
TheTrials
right now NAM SIM from 12z is really handling this well. It had the line really going in SWCT on to the north and east and you can see that in fact the well defined from Danbury N and E but S and W is fading some. IsentropicLift
look at the radar out of Mt. Holly, its alot less pesimistic. I think were destined, at least most of us to get the storms currently near Scranton, and they still look healthy.
meteorjosh
I'm afraid I have to stick to my guns...this just won't be memorable for the City, in fact the line is falling apart as it enters NW NJ...no boom as most were expecting...looks like the lone supercell that crossed Sullivan and is now in SW CT really sucked the life out of the atmosphere in the lower hudson valley, I'll be throwing in the towel if I do not see a SIGNIFICANT explosion of convection by 5:30...I just don't think it is going to happen when the outflow has outrun the convection edit: sorry for the depressing post, I really hope I am wrong, but I have just been in this City for so long and seen so many set-ups like this

Superstorm93
Really not impressed by the convection thats supposedly heading into the NYC metro. We'll see what happens.
tmagan
Seems odd that Farmingdale, NY is reporting lightning distant northwest.
Stormlover74
I just wish they'd start 'diving' southeast a bit more, otherwise they look to stay north of I-80. There's still more storms southwest of there that could get the rest of us though look at the radar out of Mt. Holly, its alot less pesimistic. I think were destined, at least most of us to get the storms currently near Scranton, and they still look healthy.
ag3
Can explode as it heads into the region. Lets hold off for an hour. That line about to enter NWNJ is slowly dragging SE.
TheTrials
never a good sign when earthlight logs off...but I agree with AG3, give it an hour or so. Still, something seems off, and it looks like its related to those cells that popped up with that outflow boundary.

Quiet... I understand your point, but I've also been living here about 40 years longer than you...and experience does count for something (of course I didn't believe that when I was your age either). CAT5ANDREW
How many times have there been severe healthy lines coming out of NEPA/NWNJ only to fall apart just as they hit NYC? This is going to be somewhat opposite where the strongest storms are right in the 5 boroughs/ENJ.Nobody is going to be dissapointed tonight. Allsnow
Seems to be the year for t-storms in sne.....tornado outbreak, last night they got hit hard, and today they had a nice line go through. Stormlover74
Some pretty nice cells popping up between Harrisburg and Williamsport, PA. Maybe our storms won't be of the squall line nature (at least south and west of NYC) How many times have there been severe healthy lines coming out of NEPA/NWNJ only to fall apart just as they hit NYC?
