MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1173

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

0443 PM CDT FRI JUN 10 2011

AREAS AFFECTED...SERN PA...NJ...MD...FAR NRN VA...FAR ERN WV

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 102143Z - 102300Z

CORRECTED LAST SENTENCE

AN ISOLATED SEVERE THREAT WILL LIKELY CONTINUE FOR A FEW MORE HOURS

ACROSS SRN PA SPREADING EWD INTO NJ AND DEVELOPING SWD INTO NRN MD.

WIND DAMAGE AND HAIL SHOULD BE THE PRIMARY THREATS BUT SHOULD REMAIN

TOO MARGINAL TO WARRANT WW ISSUANCE.

A BROKEN LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS IS ONGOING FROM CNTRL PA SWD INTO FAR

NRN VA ALONG THE NRN EDGE OF MODERATE INSTABILITY. THE STORMS SHOULD

EXPAND IN COVERAGE AS SFC TEMPS CONTINUE TO WARM AND AS LARGE-SCALE

ASCENT INCREASES FROM THE WEST DUE TO A SHORTWAVE TROUGH EVIDENT ON

WATER VAPOR IMAGERY. AS THE STORMS MOVE INTO GREATER INSTABILITY

ACROSS SE PA WHERE LOW-LEVEL LAPSE RATES ARE QUITE STEEP...THE WIND

DAMAGE THREAT MAY PERSIST AND DEVELOP SWD WITH TIME. HAIL MAY ALSO

OCCUR WITH THE MORE INTENSE CELLS. THE COMBINATION OF INSTABILITY

AND DEEP LAYER SHEAR APPEARS ON THE MARGINAL SIDE FOR SEVERE STORMS

AND THE THREATS SHOULD REMAIN ISOLATED.

Bullseye two days in a row :weight_lift:

That was the heaviest rain I've ever seen with the Sun still shining...absolutely torrential rain as I drove across Columbia around 7pm. Looks like it was a bit lighter at my house on the eastside of town. Some neat spiraling scud clouds too before it started raining.

I'm going to pretend that I never looked at the Euro.

i said it in the 2010 thread or somewhere maybe the drought thread.. but i think our saving grace this yr might be the breaks. i dont recall any of this glory last yr but maybe the heat burned my brain.

we've had a tendancy to get these 500 lows to lock in over/near new england for a while now. i guess i can't assume that will last all summer and we're probably already seeing less of it now than previously, but if that repeats another time or two we can probably end up with repeats down the line.

i give us a 80% chance of hitting 103 or higher this summer
