I called the ASOS (703-412-8140), it said 36°C. Which converts to 96.8°F

yeah but it's really 35.6

True, but.. I also just noticed this.

RMK AO2 SLP137 T03560206 10361 20244 58008

36.1°C (97.0°F) was the high in the past 6 hours, which was likely in the past hour...

105 degree heat index at DC... wonder what warning criteria is?

Excessive Heat Warning Issued within 12 hours of the onset of the following criteria: heat index of at least 105°F for more than 3 hours per day for 2 consecutive days, or heat index more than 115°F for any period of time.

Nope. Heat advisory is 105-109, with no time criteria. Heat warning is 110+ with no time criteria.

It's funny looking at the criteria for some NWS offices have for heat advisories, like NWS Charleston (WV): Heat Index between 105° F and 115° F for 3 hours for one day, or minimum tempereratures greater than 80° F for 2 consecutive days.

That doesn't even sound possible for their CWA, especially with all the higher terrain out there. Why have a product that'll never be used unless you cheat? The problem with these heat criteria is that the dewpoint mixes down almost every time it gets warm enough to meet criteria. So you go from 74/71 at 7 AM to 98/60 at 4 PM and never come close to the criteria, even though to everybody else that's a ridiculously hot and humid day.

The highest temp I got through 4PM was 93.7, there was steady-ish W breeze off the Potomac that may have played a role?

92.3 right now, so not too bad actually. Still much too uncomfortable, but most seem to have it worse.

It was 92.8 on my therm. at about 4:15. I don't know if that was my max as I haven't cleared the memory since winter. I just don't care much for the heat. As a matter of fact, I'll go on record, and say that I think this weather sucks. I can't wait for late September.
