Are you talking about the stuff in N WV (near the panhandle, that would go into Hagerstown/Martinsburg area), or the stuff that looks like it's on a beeline to the Shen. Valley?

Gotcha. That stuff going towards Hburg area looks like it could graze us in southern PWC. Daughter is headed towards Quantico for fireworks. She may be 18, but still trying to make sure she is prepared (it's the Mommy in me!).

Thanks for the photos Trixie. We've been fortunate this year with storms. Looks like bad timing tonight though, as the kids are charging out the door trying to get to Williamsport for the fireworks show and its still raining.

Happy 4th to you and Mr. OceanWx.

Nice photo, could use some of your rain 25 miles south here in Boyce as the grass is mostly brown.

I haven't been able to go more than 7 days at any point this year without cutting the grass, and most of the time it has been every 5 days. After a dry spell the first couple of weeks in June, I've picked up another 3.52" in the past 24 days. Really atypical for this location to get in on nearly every thunderstorm opportunity, but I won't complain.

the weather is nearly always "micro" particularly in the summer, a few t storm hits and your yearly rainfall totals can really swing.

enjoy your wetness. Your garden doing well?

The garden is flourishing. There's been enough sun between the frequent rains for the vegetables to thrive. Fortunate for me because I really went overboard with the planting this year. Have over 750 tomatoes now on 50 plants I trellised up using scrap lumber from work and jute twine strung through them to support them.

I cut my grass every 3rd day from May thru September (I'm a lawn freak). I'm pretty sick of it by September, though, so I'm glad our growing season is shorter.

We haven't had too much of a dry streak this year, yet. 1.20" in the last week.

I've been on that every 3-4 day schedule out of necessity this year so far. It's about time to put on grub control.

Yeah, you guys have been lucky so far. I've watched time and again your area get soaked while I sat here dry as a bone. We were getting really close to being burnt here, but got lucky ourselves both Saturday night and again last night with very heavy rains. Yesterday's storm just blew up right over us, and was quite severe wrt wind. BTW, to you and Trix, great pics. We had a cloud formation very similar to what you posted. We also had very strong winds from the W that switched on a dime to very strong winds from the NE. To me, that would suggest some type of rotation, but that's about as far as my thinking will allow me to go.

If I recall correctly, you're no more than 30 miles to my southwest, is that correct ? (I'm 3 miles due west of WV Exit 23.) You'd think we'd share in most weather, but I guess topography plays a role too. I've spent the previous 5 summers since moving here watching lines of storms organize just a few miles to my east and turn into big producers for the cities to the southeast. This year has been way different. More NW flow events which seems to favor here, sometimes even over Trix's place just to my south. That's also how I steal Martinsburg's flurries sometimes on blustery winter days.:)

You are exactly right on that NW flow theory. In the winter, where I am, you can forget it. If it's NW flow, it will not snow here, ever. West is better, but SW, S, and SE are money. The storms we got this weekend both came from the NW, but earlier in the month, as I watched you get creamed with rain on radar, the storms would split my area every time. Probably more bad luck than anything else. I'm just glad we finally got some. It really greened everything up good. Oh, I am due west, 4.7 miles of mile marker 323 in Virginia (first exit you hit coming south), so, yeah, we are only about 30 miles apart, probably less as the crow flies.

Guys, SNE transplant here. Moved into Towson University in Maryland where I will be playing the next four years as an offensive guard. I look forward to learning the area climo and getting to meet some of you at the conference.

Jay

P.S. still hot and humid at 6am and 5pm workouts! AC works great in the dorms though!
