GR2Analyst

Recommended Posts

I am interested in purchasing Analyst, but still not sure about buying it even after the trial period. Wondering if anyone here who has used it for a while could give their opinion on it and how it compares to GR's other products, or other radar software programs on the market.

GR2Analyst is great if you are using it as a professional tool for severe weather coverage or broadcasting. It has more features for analyzing storm data such as plugins for time plots, graphs, and includes 3d modeling of super cells, derechos, hail cores, etc. As a professional tool, it's easily worth it. But would I say it's worth paying $250 for the average enthusiast or person? No. I have found the regular GRlevel2 or 3 to be exceptionally adequate. In fact, I recommend GRLevel3 to family members and friends who need an excellent radar program or who just want to be more informed about where bad weather is located. Furthermore, if you have bandwidth issues, slower connection speeds or an older cpu, Level3 is probably the way to go. You can track, for example, couplets and bow echoes just as effectively. It's more a matter of economics. If you can afford Level2 Analyst or you are a professional meteorologist, then this is a much easier decision. :)

As far as other radar and tracking software, it is my opinion that GRLevelx is the best.

GR2AE is great if that is what your looking for, the fine grained details about the storm in every aspect. For the general weather enthusiast however GRLevel3 is just as good and most who are not met's or met students would take the GRLevel 3 route. You can do many of the things in terms of place files and shapefiles that you can do with GR2AE. Besides, Level 3 gives you fields such as hourly and storm total precip.

If you are REALLY into severe weather, GR2AE is beyond worth the money. I have both, and lvl 2 is light years ahead of 3. But if you just track general weather, and such, lvl 3 will work fine for you. I haven't had an issue with using it on a older computer yet. I used to run AE on my 6 year old laptop, and didn't have an issue.

WeatherScope is great and it doesn't cost a penny.

Except it doesn't show most of the variables... not that I don't use it; it's the best free base reflectivity source out there. RadarScope is better at only $9.99 (iPhone).

I'm sure you can find 99% of the features on the internet. GR2Analyst just organizes them all in one place, aside from being automated and such.

Also, it's simply ridiculous to spend over $150 on any software program even though I don't support piracy.

Yes, please buy me a copy. I have GRlvl2 and need GR2AE.

Sure, just send me your $250 and I'll be sure to buy you a copy. arrowheadsmiley.png

Thanks for all the replies as they have helped me make up my mind a little bit more than before.

GRL2A is well worth the $250 in my opinion.

I use both L2A and L3, also with a subscription to Allisonhouse as Beau mentioned above. L3 does the trick just fine, but L2A is just... phenomenally detailed, especially for looking at storms at a distance from a radar site, example over southern Ontario

Yes, I remember looking at this on my trial version of Analyst as it was happening using the two window option. BR and SRV with that same color table.

Does GRLevel3 have the multiple window option? Looks like Level3 is almost the way to go for now.

L3 has up to four windows, same as L2A
