Central Hudson will NOT be giving out dry ice today as they expect most, in Orange County at least, to have power back by Wednesday evening.

Another victim of Irene is Brewfest at Mt. Snow this weekend. That sucks but nothing to complain about in light of what others are dealing with...

The ultimate flood along that stretch of 209 was in June 2006. I drove through there after that and it was crazy how high the water line had been.

Made it into work today down in Nazareth, Pa. Route 209 is still closed along the Delaware river from Milford, Pa to Bushkill. Had to take Milford road. Alot of washed out roads and most are without power in that area. Can't wait to 209 reopens too see what that looks like.

I'm in the town of Wawayanda and the word is midnight Friday! Ughh..

This morning I seen a convoy of utility trucks in Blooming Grove heading west on Rt 17 and a line of 4x4 type fire trucks some from Newark on Rt 207 in Goshen Village.

On the thruway north bound just before Arden Road overpass, the beginning of the Ramapo River comes down out of the hills and Echo Lake. This must have turned in to the Colorado River Sunday judging be the landslide of trees, boulders and other forest trash that covers the area and was thrown across the thruway, Amazing sight to see.

Each day I see some some other new photo/video from here all the way through new Hampshire and I'm amazed. I went to down the intersection of NYS 416 and County 99 and figured that it must be close to opening again based on the Wallkill River gauge in Gardiner which was just about below flood stage.....Yeah, I've determined that there really should be a gauge someplace in Orange County because as of last night this section of the Wallkill was still in the moderate to major flood stage.

Looking at this from the south bound side, the north side of the thruway is higher and the roads are terraced. The force of the water created a waterfall and almost eroded under the north side road .

This is a picture of erosion on Craigville Road behind my house. The force of the water coming out of one of the drainage pipes that handles the runoff from the hills eroded about 4 feet of roadbed next to and under the road. Not a big deal as far as damage goes but it illustrates the smaller or hidden infrastructure issues all over the valley that will need to be remedied at some point.

I vote change the subtitle

That was my thought too, to keep all of our archives if you will in one thread.

A possible 1" of rain Sunday into Monday...isn't that great news.... Hopefully that won't cause too many problems, the bigger concern is if we get some more tropical moisture up this way again some time over the next couple of months.

I agree Rob. Like I said above there are numerous major and minor infrastructure issues all over. Heavier rain events increase the damage to roads, sewer systems, and the rest as the rain will continue to degrade compromised systems.

Thats a good point Rob. The Walkill has flooded the Black Dirt farms and has not receded yet. It look ominous for the farmers this year.

Well from what I hear is that Echo lake is now empty. The entire lake emptied out after the dam gave way. Kinda explains everything now. lol

I believe there was video or pics posted on the net about that. Ill see if I can find it.

BTW: Power came back on yesterday afternoon :)

I think one reason we still have so much water in the Wallkill are the dams in Montgomery and Walden. I'm going to see what it looks like today after work and then maybe contact Upton to let them know, we still flooding going on here.

BTW: Power came back on yesterday afternoon :)

Good to hear! My folks got theirs back late yesterday afternoon too.

Interesting post from Orange and Rockland

http://www.oru.com/advisories/?id=534

One of the reasons for the widespread destruction from the hurricane in Rockland was the fact that the hurricane’s eyewall settled for a time over Harriman State Park, according to the National Weather Service. That resulted in the highest rainfall numbers in the region, and some of the worst flooding that closed the NYS Thruway, Route 17 and the Palisades Parkway, and flooded dozens of local roads and washed out others.Tuxedo topped the rainfall totals with 11.48 inches, Harriman with 10.75 inches and New City with 8.75 inches.

Another contributing factor to the destruction was the high, tropical-storm strength winds. The National Weather Service Monitoring Station at the Orange County Airport measured gusts of 46 m.p.h.That violent weather flooded O&R’s Customer Service department with the highest phone call volumes on record. From 1 a.m. Sunday to today, O&R received 167,000 phone calls from customers. That call volume peaked between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Sunday with 6,860 calls. That’s as many calls in a half-hour as O&R normally gets over a three-day period.

For the latest outage numbers updated every 15 minutes, please go to oru.com/storms. You can report an electric outage or check your outage status by entering www.oru.com into your SmartPhone. Your phone will automatically be directed to our mobile Web site.

Due to the severity of the storm, many of these restoration efforts require a rebuilding of portions of our electric system. Work is being prioritized in a manner that restores the greatest number of customers in the shortest period of time.

More than 180 O&R, contractor and mutual aid crews from as far as Michigan and Texas are performing system repairs. These crews are being scheduled on an around-the-clock basis in a manner to assure the safest and fastest restoration of service to our customers.

That makes since especially based on the track that you posted that showed the center going through the Carmel area.

OCEM hit the 5000 friend limit today and are telling people to use their org "join" page now. The only issue with the org page is I am not sure if people can tag them in their photos. The photo sharing was very innovative and informative

This makes me feel good for not buying there. What a mess. Do you think the dams are keeping the flood waters bottled up in Orange ?

Did you notice if the Goshen Tpike bridge over the river is opened now Rob?

Goshen-Scotchtown Turnpike is open. Yes, I fully believe that the dam in Montgomery is the cause of all the water still in Orange County. I suppose some would say the dam is doing it's job. I saw that the gauge at Gardiner flat lined earlier today right near the action stage. I'm thinking it's going to stay at that level until we get rid of all of this water, hopefully before we add more from new rainfall. One thing I learned from this storm is that the gauge in Gardiner really doesn't mean squat for Orange County.

You are correct it does flow south to north. Many have been saying for a while, and I agree, that another gauge should be installed futher upstream someplace in Orange County which would be much more useful for us since it wouldn't be downstream. There probably should be a gauge intalled on the Moodna Creek as well.
