Hey so I'm going to SUNY New Paltz, and I'm wondering if this is the right thread to post in. I'll probably be posting in and out during the winter months, especially February and March, and part of December since I live in New York City, i'll be posting there as well.

Hope to talk soon.

MANNY!!!! We are both moving to snowier places....you to New Paltz, me to New Hampshire..I got a job at a private school teaching Spanish so I am out of here.

Hey man, still remember the NYC get together, lol those were good times. Yeah, i'm excited to be going to New Paltz, and enjoying colder and hopefully snowier weather, but i'll be in and out of NYC in the meantime.

I'm glad you found a decent job and hopefully you stick on a path like teaching for your career. Hope you do well in NH dude, for real.

It is indeed the place... Welcome to the HV. I work in NYC a few days a week, so tend to keep my eye on both sub-forums...

New Paltz is a cool place to live and definitely snowier than NYC.. And there is Minnewaska State Park near by too, so you have some good elevation surrounding New Paltz.

I would highly advise taking the ride up to Minnewaska. if you take Route 44/55 from Route 299 coming out of New Paltz you'll gain some decent elevation and watch the snowpack grow exponentially. I remember doing some coursework at Vassar during 07-08, and in that changeover winter there was a huge contrast between the HV and the Gunks...I took those routes a few times on the trip back from my parents' vacation home in the Poconos. The highest elevations of the Shawangunk Ridge exceed 2000' and see a very severe winter. Here is a picture of Lake Minnewaska from my travels:

Yeah I'm definitely looking forward to exploring the outskirts of New Paltz, in the mountainous areas, even during the winter. It's going to be hassle trying to post in both sub-forums, and conflicting at times since I want New York City to do well, but I want to do well.

Brandywines are my favorite tasting... it's like eating sugar. The downside, and one I've been trying to resolve through my own research and cross-breeding, is that you only get a few good fruit off the whole plant, and the nicest ones tend to split wide open before you think they're anywhere close to being ripe. After August, you get a few sickly looking two-inch fruits off the plant, which starts to decline real fast. I almost always plant one for the taste, but certainly not for yield or hardiness.

Picked my first Brandywine yesterday, it still has a few days to go for ripening

Thanks, we are having a great time, only a few showers in the evening off our first night. Got to watch some nice storms though to our north and south pushout to sea on Monday evening

Cool you did better weather wise than we did, the sun finallycame out last evening. We received between 3 and 4 inches, south and east were swimming.

Pics?

I got some of one of them but missed out on a photo of both of them at the same time as I was too busy wave surfing and pointing the structure out to my kids and friends, LOL. One hell of a storm here last night that lasted for hours with very intense lightning, it was quite the show. I'll post a photo of the waterspout when I get home later this weekend.

Sitting here in Southern Dutchess-wicked lighting around us-one hit so close while I was in the garage, I felt the concussion of it(decided standing in there to watch wasn't a great idea) :lightning: We've had some pea hail-with larger ones mixed in-gotta check the cars after all said and done. It's been pouring to the point you had limited visibility just to see across the street-then the rain was changing directions for a bit too-came from the north-then back from the west-wild stuff. Now we have rain, thunder and sun. Fun stuff for a Friday afternoon.

Looking for potential impacts up here from whatever comes of Irene early next week. If nothing else, and the storm holds together and moves ashore over Florida, we might see a bout of heavy rainfall from the storm's remnants, but I think it's too early to rule out more direct impacts if it manages to stay east of FL and ride the coast.

Here too in central Dutchess but it is breaking up.

post-3401-0-82554600-1313941352.gif

It brightens up for a only a very few seconds now and then thru cloudy skies, temp here dropped a degree. I think there are too many little areas of showers to let the skies clear in orange co atm in NW jersey and eastern Pa. Ulster Co and north and east are having a loud late morning early afternoon. Waiting on the SPC WRF
