I hope those are not highs because no way highs nearby will be in the 40's. This is insane right there but on the other hand if this will lead to transition to more summer weather patter we may deal with one painfully chilly rain day with highs struggle to 60 F and perhaps may some location not get out of the 50's with possible noreaster like system. As much I hate noreasters in the warm season if it would lead a transition to summer weather pattern then I would take it.

What you have there is a strong cold frontal passage with deep convection. Doubt it verifies but its something cool to look at in this otherwise dull period.

I hope we don't get 100 F either but I don't chilly weather either. I will take 70's and 80's every single day with a day or two near 90 F and for when severe thunderstorms chance then some days with dewpoints in the 60's. Check the 12z GFS that it has the area back into the 80's with moderate levels of humidity returning and maybe some thunderstorm chances. I can't get the Euro I am wondering what that says for the next 7-10 days. 12z NAM good part time overdoes the cold and tends to have a cold bias alot time and I still think we could have one day with temps only getting into the 60's which I think Sunday will be the day with an East wind and possible showers that day. Monday or Tuesday a warm front will come through warms things up again.

You would like 100+ degrees if the stretch ended with a big severe outbreak a la 93 and 95 :devilsmiley:

Very September like out there this morning. 63.1 and OVC after a chilly low of 46.3 here in Monmouth. Pool's probably down near 70 now. Gimme my torch back.

Reminds me of California weather, which they've been continuing with their below normal stretch and that persistent trough out there. We should see much warmer weather move back in toward the middle of next week with some heat returning on/around the 8th. Not sure how sustained it will be but we should see a couple a few days near or above 90 (maybe not the park) but it'll be interesting to track none the less for those who enjoy summer heat.... I think we'll see these back and forth transitions from the heat to the drier NW flow and then back to more warmth around the 13th.

Tony - agreed, we should start seeing the heat buildback in later this week, with occasional cool downs via short waves in the NW flow.

That MCS is sliding well to the west...the visible satellite shows the easterly edge of the clouds decaying pretty well now the last few hours. I think we will be fine later this afternoon. 12z NAM still has 80 F.

NYC east, but NJ looks crappy this afternoon. Ton of clouds upstream to our NNW.

I'm at 70.3/48 right now at 2pm. Forecast high of 80 was revised down to 78, but I doubt that'll be reached.

Not that anyone was forecasting heat for this weekend. Anyway, the June scorcher will resume by mid week.

Im not liking that August cool forecast you put out :P Hopefully if the heat comes later than expected it will last thru July and August, making the whole summer above normal ;) It can be cool all it wants now-- I want a hot July and August!

July 2, 1993 we had a high in the mid 60s with rain and cool and gusty NE winds...... ended up with a historic heat wave a few days later with three straight days of 100+ at NYC and 5 straight at EWR..... historic summer followed that was just as enjoyable for its extremes as 1995-96 was for snow :)

Don't care about hot summer but want active summer with thunderstorms. If it was just mostly in the 70's and 80's with one or two 90 degree days in the summer I would take it. As long it is not too cool either.

You would have liked 1993-- hot and lots of thunderstorms.

Down to 75.3/49 after a high of 77.2F; low was 54.8F this morning.

Had 75/54 yesterday, nice crisp weather.

Been gardening a lot here in Dobbs, yellow peas from India are about ready to harvest, more arugula got harvested today, tomatoes on almost all the plants. sun.gif

You imported peas? Sounds like the best gardening season for you in years!

Wow, I think this is the first time I can remember having a cooler high than Mt. Zucker. I'm only 71.2 right now after a measely high of 73.1.

But it does seem like I'm much colder than you at night, especially w/ clear/calm conditions. Low was 46 here, nearly 10 degrees lower than you.

See I'm the opposite; I'd rather have the big heat come in the high sun angle months of May/June/July, with cooling in August. Same is true with winter, I prefer our coldest/snowiest weather in December and January when the snow is more easily preserved. Basically 2010-2011 was my ideal winter.

Earthlight has already made the call for tripple digits every day in July, you should get your wish.

I didn't import them...they're from a wonderful website called Seed Savers Exchange which acquires and sells rare/heirloom seeds in order to preserve biodiversity. It's a non-profit organization with a lot of educational programs at their farm in Iowa, and they have a wonderful selection of seeds and transplants. These peas are the most beautiful I've ever grown...blue-violet flowers, bright yellow pods that are completely edible. I've also been growing their Apollo Arugula, which is delicious. And yes, I've expanded the garden a lot this season, taking it very seriously. Got about 10 different varieties of tomatoes, 3 types of eggplants, lots of greens, hot and sweet peppers, all sorts of squashes, Brussels sprouts, every herb imaginable. Everything is doing great.

Indian yellow peas:

Apollo arugula:

Pineapple sage:

First fruit on beefsteak tomato:

Black Beauty eggplant:

It's been clearer here since the MCS is farther west...we had sunshine until just about an hour ago. I played tennis from 3:30-4:45, and it was mostly sunny for the majority of the match.

I radiate horribly...the area is very hilly, fairly developed, and less than 10 miles from the Bronx border. I didn't even get below 0F this winter with 850s of -21C. Also, the temperatures I'm quoting are from a Wunderground station which is closer to downtown...there are some frost hollows in the woods behind my house at like 400' elevation which certainly got into the 40s the last two nights. I notice dramatic differences in temperature, snowfall, and especially snow cover going from the urbanized downtown at 50' next to the Hudson River and the wooded hollows near 400'. It really does make a difference, despite all the kidding I get. Sure it's not Mt. McKinley, but there are some noticeable contrasts that the weather enthusiast notices. The difference tends to be exaggerated since the higher elevations in Southern Westchester are mostly protected land as part of the Taxter Ridge (Elmsford Ridge) Greenway project, which has been progressing well down here in creating an extended tract of different preserves/parkland in the hilly terrain inland from the Hudson.

Yup me too...I like August to be a bit more fall-like since it gets me into the change of season and excitement about foliage and winter. August 2008 was perfection with lots of nights in the low 50s.

And yes, the timing of this winter was impeccable. I wish we'd gotten the storm on December 19th so that our winter started a bit earlier, as most of December was rather dull outside of the extremely cold temps, but having the major storms from December 26th-February 3rd meant that we were able to hold over a foot of snow cover for the vast majority of 6 weeks. I had at least 12" on the ground at the end of December, most of January, and first week of February...my snowpack peaked at around 25-26" after the 1/27 storm and then again after the 2/2 WAA snows that changed to ice. This was the most solid stretch of winter weather I can remember since 02-03. One of my favorite scenes:
