My preference. I prefer this over anything approaching 90's.

To each their own.

Thanks.

You sure it isn't psychological? I mean, lets say you didn't know the temperature and it was 90 degrees and 40 percent humidity and sunny. Can you honesty say you would like 80 degrees with 75 percent humidity and cloudy skies over that? And you're completely ignoring the way the temperature falls off much more quickly at night when the humidity is low, regardless of the daytime temp.--making for MUCH better sleeping weather.

I have had the AC on all day. That doesn't happen when it's 90/40

It's 75 here and 65 dew.

I put air condition on in my apartment always. I enjoy my apartment at 68-70. No matter what season it is.

I've put AC on in March and November.

90 degrees with low dew and no AC? Lol. No chance. My apartment would hit 80+ easily. No matter what dew point is.

It might be different for apartments, I just open the windows at night and it gets so cool that the heat during the day doesnt ruin it if the dewpoints are low. I guess it also has to do with radiational cooling-- on those kinds of nights, I can easily be 5-10 degrees cooler than JFK.

That day when JFK/EWR were at 87 and NYC/LGA were at 82 it was already in the low 60s here while JFK and the other urban locations were still in the mid and upper 70s. And Im only 4 miles from there.

I'll be driving down to the Tampa area this week and will stay there for a couple of weeks...I probably won't see a temperature as low as todays max was here...The long range forecasts for the Tampa area have above normal rainfall for July...

...and nothing like how summer is supposed to be in NY. Last year was MUCH better.

Summer is "supposed" to have days like today, mixed in with a variety of other "weather-type" days. If summer was always as you describe (i.e., like last year), the average high in NYC in July would be 95 with little rain... not much different from the semi-arid land I currently call home ;)

Dont you just love it there, though? ;)

Do you radiate very well at night (lows in the 50s?) If so, do you keep your AC on at night, Ray?

I find that if it radiates very well at night, it stays cool indoors during the day unless the temp gets well into the 90s (ie, 93 or above.) If the high is 90-92 it usually means it spent the majority of the day in the 80s.

Alex obviously has high tolerance for heat, this is no secret considering his proclaimed love for triple digit temps. I for one like to have the house around 70 whenever possible. If it was somehow possible to have a house where a dry steady breeze would flow through it at all times, I would be able to tolerate a temp of up to 80. But that place simply does my exist so AC it is.

It's just that I have a much higher tolerance for high temps than high humidity-- I hate high humidity above all else. On three separate occasions I have passed out and completely blacked out with temps in the 70s and high humidity. What basically happened was everything seemed to be super slow around me; and I felt like I could barely move, all I could see was this harsh brightness in front of me and I was extremely nauseous. If I didn't lie down immediately, I fell down and passed out. That doesn't happen when its much warmer and the humidity is low.

Oh yeah, I love it. I love the lack of big snowstorms, the chilly nights all summer long, the general lack of any real weather associated with thunderstorms even when they do happen, and especially the nose-bleed humidity. Just love it all :arrowhead:

Because it gets so cold in winter, buildings here are well insulated. Thus, in summer, what heat gets in, stays in. Plus, I'm not very comfortable leaving the windows open when I'm asleep or not at home. Plus I have only 3 windows in my apartment, only 1 of which is suitable for the average air conditioner. If I were to shut the AC off, it might take a day to get things cooled off again, so I just leave it on all the time in summer. I put it in the window right around the first day of summer and its been on 24/7 ever since.

Clouds may prevent areas from reaching mos highs today. Not seeing NYC getting to 90-91 per the mos. We'll see.

certainly not mostly sunny - clouds getting in the way, but suspect we clear out later by noon or so.

If we clear out, with these dew points and humidity levels, it will be hideous out. What happened with the NW winds and low humidity?

Where the hell are my low dews? And barely a breath of wind.

They are now slowly dropping. But very slowly. They were 69 in morning and now 64.

Winds are NW but light. If we can get them to go above 10 knots, dews will drop fast.

Right now, it's horrendous outside.

Finished Port Jeff's annual parade, been going since 10am, but horrible outside. Just sticky sloppy goo. Temps are no where near last year's Fourth, but I hung under a tree last year and had reasonably dry arm pits at the end of the parade. This year? In car with air conditioner with my arms up. The "wind" is northwesterly but barely a help.
