A-L-E-X
Gorgeous wx today with high of 82.0F IMBY, dews around 60. Just enough humidity to make for a perfect pool day yet also comfortable for walking/running/enjoying the outdoors. Very nice temps over the next few days with moderate humidity; excellent beach/pool wx. I think this is a good middle ground for board members -- the cool crew gets their low dews and the warm crew still gets sun and temps in the low - mid 80s. Wow it actually hit 86 here! Isotherm
Wow it actually hit 86 here! Yeah your area seems to be the hottest on low dew point/NW wind days.
A-L-E-X
Forecasts for NYC and LGA were for highs of 85-86 today. Looks like they topped out at 82 degrees. Slightly below average. I dont know why you group NYC and LGA together but you leave out JFK lol. It hit 86 here!
A-L-E-X
Yeah your area seems to be the hottest on low dew point/NW wind days. Yeah, this was like most of last summer lol. One thing Im trying to understand is it cant be downsloping because everyone would be hot-- how is it we're so hot on NNW winds?
Isotherm
Side note - lawns around here look like mid April. Lush, green, perfect vegetation, heading into early July. I recorded 4.5" of rain for the month of June, 3" of that in the past week.

I'd think it's because of your position SE of NYC, you're receiving the excess heat via the UHI effect. North/north west winds for Central Park are from a much less urbanized area compared to JFK (blowing through the heart of NYC).

Good point... this is also probably why areas further east on long island, even areas away from the water, are not as hot on days like this

Yeah this weekend when we're borderline heat wave, Central Park will probably be 89. Pretty decent gradient so far for 90F days -- RDU 's had 22-24 already I believe, DCA at 10-15, and only 3 thus far IMBY. Northern US cool / Southern US hot pattern continuing. A-L-E-X
Hit 87 here today and not just for a minute but for a few hours of 86-87 You and I are in the same microclimate and your area may even be a bit hotter than mine even though you're closer to the water-- I'm envious lol. Don't you have the Bay to your north and the Ocean to your south?
A-L-E-X
You're right... JFK hit 87 today, I think I missed one of the in-between readings on my wx station because I'm usually level with JFK if not a bit warmer.

A-L-E-X
I saw your wx station-- a high of 87.3, nice! Long Beach was also at 87. NYC high was 5 degrees lower than JFK lol. That reminds me of the first day of the big heatwave last year when JFK hit 101 and NYC was stuck at 96 lol.

I know NW is the prevailing wind direction in the winter, it should be in the summer too
bkviking
Agree with Alex--that nice, dry heat generated by a NW windflow is great, and the payoff was a poetic weather night in Port Jefferson for me. Defintely something noticeably missing in this year's weather compared to last year's.
A-L-E-X
87 at Newark. 82 at LGA and NYC. 87 at JFK. weird-- JFK and Newark were both at 87 NYC and LGA were both at 82 So JFK and EWR maxed out on UHI at the same temp and NYC and LGA were cooler and at the same temp because NW winds come off the water in both places (the Hudson River in the case of the park and the Sound in the case of LGA). A-L-E-X
Plus you've got the jungle foliage distortion problem at NYC. Oh yes there's that lol. It's nice to check out some of the PNS in the area to see what it's like where most of the people live. You've got to check out a bunch though because some of them don't have proper placement-- there were a few I looked at today that had highs in the mid 90s-- really bad placement. earthlight
OT but did anyone in NJ or NY without light pollution watch the Minotaur rocket launch from wallops island last night? It was awesome! Totally clear view of it taking off from the southwest. Also, the ISS passed directly overhead at 10:15 and it was spectacularly bright.
