andyhb
Rainsville was quite a bit later I think, Huntsville's radar was down by then.
Memphis Weather
So here is a question. If we know Hackleburg and Smithville were on the ground at the same time, how close was Rainsville to being on the ground at the same time? Rainsville was a few hours later...its in NE AL (close to the GA Border actually)
andyhb
It was occurring at the same time as the Ohatchee tornado from the "supercell that refused to die".
on_wx
I don't think I'll ever forget the radar loop I was looking at that afternoon as it was going on... I was just in awe at the sheer amount of classic, textbook, hooked out supercells going on at the same time. To be honest I didn't even think it was that bad. I closed the Huntsville radar after that huge mess of storms enveloped much of northern Alabama at the time of those multiple tornado emergencies. At the time, the Tuscaloosa tornado was the tornado of the day in my opinion. I guess I just thought everyone was being a little over-dramatic about a couple EF2's maybe some EF3's. A repeat/sequel of the super outbreak never even crossed my mind. Birmingham radar was about the only radar I monitored while watching ABC 33/40. I guess you could say I was a little complacent.
