Jns2183
As of 330 AM PPL has about 64,500 homes without power. Lancaster county alone has about 14500. Winds the last 30 minutes knocked out power to about 2000 homes in New Cumberland and 1600 in Derry Township
Jns2183
Also looks like a strong band is working it's way back towards Harrisburg from a Lancaster, Lebanon, Pottsville line.
Jns2183
Well, that band is not here yet but the guests are starting to down tress around me, and blow transmitters. Lights have gone off and on twice in past 10 minutes Tapatalk
canderson
Irene is ripping - woke me up with stuff flying around outside. Edit: and there go trees. FB tells ms they are down all over the place.
Jns2183
Tell me about it. I thought it was lightning out, but no, those were transformers blowing. Did not expect wind to be like this back here. Guess it makes sense when you see Richmond guesting to 71 and DCA going to 59, higher than Isabel. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
canderson
Things are fairly ( by that i mean insanely) gnarly outside.,Transformers popping everywhere now. Looks like I'm an island with electricity. Yours still on? I can't help but think ... why can't we get these in winter? (I kid, I kid!).
Jns2183
Still on somehow. Half my street is out. According to PPL outage site most of Camp hill is out. Dauphin county is over 4100 homes now out. 30 mins ago it was less than half that.
Jns2183
Lancaster county has been taken back to the dark ages with over 25000 homes out
Jns2183
And I just saw more damange in that latest wind guest. 2 neighbors are going to wake up to trees on their cars.
Jns2183
Was on my porch till a branch almost decimated me about 15 minutes ago. Not a good night to be out, haha
canderson
And my kitchen window's leaking around the edges. Woo! (anyone know what could cause that, around the perimeter of the window on the wood frame)v?
Jns2183
I am hearing sounds outside I never heard before. Almost like small explosions
Jns2183
PPL is over 90,000 now. Outages poping up every where around Harrisburg now. MDT guested to 41.4 as of
Jns2183
Last 10 minutes of wind was in a whole different league. Power is gone. Head many transformer explosions nearby. Huge tree down on neighbors roof. They are okay thank god. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
canderson
Wind's kept me from sleeping since I woke up at 4. Around 5:15 things got downright scary.
Jns2183
I was scared. hearing big trees fall like dominoes and transformer explosions left and right in total darkness was an interesting experience Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Jns2183
Ran down 4 blocks to a gas station. Looks very much like carlisle did after those straight line winds in June, maybe worse. Power is out for the fourth time this evening. Trees and large branches are down on houses and cars. Between PPL and Met Ed we are fast approaching 150,000 homes, not people, without power just in Dauphin, Cumberland, york, and Lancaster counties. Jns2183
I paid hardly any attention to the media before this one, so I have no idea what the local mets were predicting. I have only been in the Cumberland County area since 1995, but this storm seems way worse in the camp hill area than any other tropical system I experienced here. I have a feeling people are going to be surprised what they wake up to here. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Festus
Power still on here just outside of East Petersburg. A lot of 1 - 2" branches laying around the area but nothing more than that from what I saw. Lancaster Airport shows 2.55" so far. Seems a little low but from the radar, perhaps another 0.5" - 1" to go so within the 3 - 5" predicted. And to think we're just experiencing middle range tropical storm conditions. Jns2183
A neighbor up my street a block has 3 big old trees down. 2 managed to land on his neighbors house, the third on his neighbors car. Talk about having a rough night. I guess it's good and bad that his neighbor is out of town all weekend. Jns2183
I have no idea why so many big trees came down in this area around my parents house. Not sure when the last wind event was here that would have taken out weak trees. Add in super satuated soil here from the past week with full foliage on the trees, and I guess it was just too much Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
hckyplayer8
Somehow still have power. Roughly 5am had a scary turn of events as a 4 inch diameter branch broke off the tree and rolled into the bedroom window. The noise woke me up. Decided I was going to heed that warning and I relocated into the basement. Quick walk around the house, and the only structure damage I saw so far was some siding got peeled off. The Gap officially measured a high gust of 44mph.
Jns2183
I was in Carlisle for the microburst in June, and it all happened so fast you really didn't have time to be scared. This storm the actual peak wind was much lower, but it was the shear duration and the fact that each round felt stronger and stronger did a number on my nerves. hckyplayer8
Holy ****. A huge gust just snapped off another two big limbs and sent them cartwheeling. The one has to be close to 10 feet long.
Jns2183
I think that MDT had. 98 inches at midnight and 2.32 inches from midnight till 7 am. I so storm total should be over 3 officially Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Jns2183
I think I will have the image and sounds of the one band that hit around 5 am with me for awhile. Nothing quite like staring into pitch blackness and hearing the wind increase as you see the blue flashes in the distance of transformers exploding like dominoes toward you until one exploads close enough to hear. Add in the sound of trees crashing and I ended up a bit unnerved
The Iceman
rain underperformed here(picked up 3.2"...still significant but guidance was calling for closer to 5) but wind has way over performed imo....just looking out my window i see 3-4 large branches down outside my apartment. AlexP
Somehow I managed to sleep through all of it. No visible damage to my house, power is still on in midtown Harrisburg. Was supposed to be a driving into NYC today. Going to take a wait and see approach on that.. Looks like an official landfall is occurring in the city as we speak. jen2swt
Had the pleasure of watching several transformers blow and light up the sky in electric blue...Power went off about 6 times but then came back on. Comcast Internet was out the longest (go figure)..but no damage here, no trees down (how I dont know the wind is crazy)....Not sure how much rain, I'd say probably around 3-4"..interesting storm to say the least..
