It's amazing how hot it was able to get in elevated and fairly rural sites like AOO and UNV. The decrease in the humidity later in the day really helped some climb up temperature wise, but still incredible nonetheless and a testament to the brutality of this heat wave. I think that in all the years I lived up in State College, the hottest it got was perhaps 94-95. Making it to 102 is unbelievable for this region (especially having it occur twice in a row!!), especially in hilly and elevated locales. State College is 1200 feet above sea level and the airport site is in a rural, agricultural area. Certainly nothing like the urban jungles such as PHL, EWR, Central Park and such.

I've lived here 13 years, and I believe the highest recorded temp at KUNV (hit a few times) during that period was 95 prior to Thursday. To have back to back 100 and 102 is disorienting.

we better see some rain today...

This Afternoon: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 90. North wind between 5 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 9pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 70. Light north wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Our highs for the heatwave: 7/21: 100.2° 7/22: 103.4° 7/23: 99.0°

Impressive heat for this area. I'm really hoping we can pick up some decent rainfall this afternoon/evening...looks like our best shot for awhile and we need it. Our lawn is mostly brown and crispy, some of it will have to be replanted I'm sure.

Yeah those storms north of me just died as they approached(I was in the gap anyway). We've had about .30" in July in two events, and nothing over .25" since June 22.

I'll be interested to see if we can touch 90° tomorrow. Forecasts are 85-87°, but if its sunny, the dry ground may allow us to beat that. I'm hoping so, that way we can extend our 8-day heatwave out to possibly 12-15 days.

talk about a blinding downpour out in montoursville/williamsport. add that to cars overturned out in Mill Hall and that's a nasty line of t-storms heading ese thru PA right now. anybody in Dushore, Tunkhannock, or Milton seeing anything with this line, and if so what?

new warning btw for Berwick/Bloomsburg/Danville/Selingsgrove/Mount Carmel/Elysburg/Kenobles/ Shamokin for downpours and gusts.
