TORNADOES...HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 80 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS. DISCUSSION...A FAST-MOVING BOW ECHO COMPLEX OVER NORTHERN IL WILL TRACK RAPIDLY EASTWARD AT 45-50 KNOTS ACROSS THE WATCH AREA TODAY. A WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WIND EVENT /DERECHO/ IS POSSIBLE. RAPID DESTABILIZATION HAS OCCURRED AHEAD OF THE BOW AS THE WARM FROM RETREATS... SUGGESTING BOW MAY MAINTAIN INTENSITY FOR SEVERAL MORE HOURS. STRENGTHENING LOW LEVEL WINDS AND PROXIMITY OF WARM FRONT... COUPLED WITH HIGH LEVEL OF MESOSCALE ORGANIZATION OF BOW SUPPORTS A THREAT OF QLCS TORNADOES ALONG THE BOW...AS WELL AS ISOLATED SUPERCELLS AHEAD OF THE BOW. cyclone77
yeah backside of the comma should deliver more than the nearly calm winds out there now. Yeah Dubuque was gusting to 53mph from the southeast on the back side of the rain at noon. With building instability out ahead of the line it should only get stronger through the afternoon. Quite the cold pool has developed now as well.
csnavywx
Winds almost dead calm in DeKalb, but extremely heavy rain and continuous window-rattling thunder and lightning. I'm having a hard time seeing across the street to my neighbor's house (150 yards or so).

cyclone77
Getting lots of anvil crawler type lightning, with northeast gusts over 35mph. Wish we had a radar in far northwest Indiana so we could get a better scan on that line. Don't think the LOT radar is quite picking up the winds with this thing. csnavywx
love the way cells have fired up along the back band from dubuque to the QCs Yes, the line end vortex will become an issue later I think. Coriolis force has had time to help spin this sucker up and with all of the intense latent-heat release going on, we should see both the front and lee-side winds increase. On a somewhat separate note, I seriously can't remember the last time I had rain that heavy.
