Looking at the long-range, enjoy the next several days, because it looks like the ridge is going to be building back in. GFS Ensembles strongly hinting at lower than normal heights in the west and higher than normal heights for much of the other country, and it seems to lock it in for a while. So this would definitely support a return to warmer than normal temps for the eastern 2/3rds of the country, as reflected in CPC's 6 to 10 and 8 to 14 day outlooks.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about what the operational run says temp wise, because the height fields would certainly support a heat wave in the central and eastern CONUS sometime during that period.

I'm sure you're lovin this weather: perfect for those who despise 60s/70s and sunny (but I don't think I can find anyone out there who fits that description).:axe:

52 out and 3rd day in a row of daylight hrs in the 50's

If it wasn't for the lame 1:14am high of 69 on thursday this would be the 3rd day in a row of -20 or better max departures. Coming off of 3 days in a row of record +20's its been a fun run of extremes.

I did. The heat that Detroit received was impressive by Detroit standards. Those of us in St. Louis laugh at his "heat wave".

Yes, but it was real summer heat which you say they do not experience.

You live in a different part of the county, so no **** the type of heat will be different in your area.

Each city has their own standards.

No. I'm talking about REEEAAALL summer heat. What I was saying was that if he lived in St. Louis (or a city with a similar or hotter climate), he might be singing a totally different tune. And that was before he made the additional post saying that he liked hot and swampy weather.

Ice puss1ies is the new DAB. Funny the first couple of times...played out after that. But I digress...

Still muggy here, but looks like 79º for the high today.

+1

And the heat can suck it as far as i am concerned. This week looks awesome imo. Had enough heat and humidity at the Mid Atlantic coast to last several lifetimes.

BTW.. Models are probably struggling because of the very weak MJO signal for one. Most of them as well have it hanging around the circle of death and perhaps popping out in phase 1 or 2 and then making a move late in the week. Phase 1 typically brings close to normal temps while phase 2 and especially 3 bring below to much below normal temps. Models as well no longer have a -PNA showing and have it near neutral while the AO/NAO are negative. EPO is as well forecast to tank as well. All in all mostly cool and or below normal temps are looking to be most probable for a little while atleast per those indices. We'll see anyways. All knows how this goes and thus how quick things can change.

LMAO @ Independence Iowa observations over the last few days. Apparently they hit 158 degrees yesterday, with a dewpoint of 135. The next hour they were down to 16 degrees. It's currently 104 there. :lmao:

It was 109/100 this afternoon, for a steaming HI of 202F.

Not as bad as the 145/144 with a HI of 694F yesterday.

Now that's some real summer heat. :sun:

I wonder if the Heat Index applies to boiling water? Could save to gas money on the stove by cooking outside.

That would make for some outrageous instability.

Down to 54 now. Some cooler/low-lying locations in northern Illinois may dip into the upper 40s later tonight.

Ahahaaha

So Detroit has real summer heat... St. Louis has REEEAAALL summer heat. Do people in Phoenix have REEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL summer heat?

No...it's a dry heat. :lmao:

It really does make a difference though. After living in Salt Lake for a year with the 95-100 degree summer days every single day, you get used to it. Mixing to 500 hpa and having dewpoints in the 20s and 40s if it is "humid" makes a huge difference. It is very bearable. The disgusting feel of 90 with 65-70+ degree dewpoints really has no comparison.
