Looks like some record high minimums today in SE Michigan. Detroit at 74, and Flint at 77. The 77 at Flint ties the fourth warmest of any night (behind the 79 on 7/18/1942, and the 78 on 8/1/2006, 7/15/1977, and 6/20/1953).

In the city, the low was 78F due to UHI effect, which effects DTW slightly less.

Any potential thunderstorms through 1 am could kill these record minimums. Still, the 77 is impressive for FNT if it holds.

Wow.

What city?

Yeah, I don't know about that figure. The temp isn't impossibly high, but there were stronger heat waves in 2005 and 1995 than this. The 97 at KTOL the last two days was the warmest since July 2005. Also, it was one of the highest readings ever in the Toledo area before June 15. The only days at or above 97 before June 15 are: 98 on June 1, 1934, 98 on June 5, 1925, 98 on June 7, 1933, 98 on June 8, 1933, 97 on June 7, 2011, 97 on June 8, 2011, and 97 on June 11, 1933.

Heck, it was 99 and 101 the last two days at KTDZ, though I suspect its running a couple degrees high. Its often about a degree warmer than TOL, but never consistently 3 degrees warmer as its been recently.

The 95F yesterday at DTW was the hottest temp since August 1, 2007, and todays 96F was the hottest temp since August 1, 2006 when it hit 97F, nearly 5 years! It is the 4th day of the year for DTW to reach 90+, so we are already one-third the way to climo (12 days) for a year. As oppressive as these two days have been, its not even technically a heatwave (a heatwave, meteorologically, is classified as 3 or more consecutive days of 90F+). And the great news, no more heat in sight! WOOHOO!

Possible (weak) heat burst at Saginaw last hour -- I saw there were heat bursts in southern Wisconsin earlier. Temp/dewpoint went from 88/65 to 90/51. Doppler radar showed collapsing showers moving through the area. A windshift and a peak wind of nearly 50 mph were also recorded. Don't see any statement from DTX warning of 50 mph winds from those little showers. LOL.

Caro, MI and other sites also detected the heat burst. Caro went from 81/64 to 88/55 in about a half hour.

And this site on Saginaw Bay went from 87/65 to 92/48.... 17 degree dewpoint drop, as well as reaching the high temp for the day. 92 degrees at 10:44 PM at Saginaw Bay!! That has to be a first!

Jack Barstow Airport went from 85/64 to 89/57 and saw an hour and a half of winds gusting up to 35 mph.

All the data seems to indicate a rare weak heat burst affected areas near Saginaw this evening.

A second heat burst may be in the beginning stages in Owosso (just west of Flint) from another dying high-based shower. Owosso went from 79/68 and dead calm to 81/64 in the past fifteen minutes. Also winds seem to be picking up (still very light, but were calm) and also there's been a windshift from the southwest to the southeast. If this is a heat burst, temps may continue to climb several degrees and dewpoints may drop and winds may get gusty.

Edit: Looks like no heat burst, those AWOS sites can go up and down like that it seems pretty easily and I don't see any other sites showing evidence of it. But the SE winds are interesting, I see a number of places are observing south to south-southeast winds now. I wonder if this was expected... will it enhance low-level shear and increase the severe threat and perhaps result in a possibility of a tornado?
