Eskimo Joe
1.) There are literally tons of debris yet to sift through by workers who are, by now, certainly at the point of exhaustion. 2.) The search process is slowed by subsequent storms and a lack of human power which must be distributed amongst other towns, counties and states which have suffered greatly during this event. 3.) When a person is declared ''missing'' it is simply that. It could be something as simple as a person who traveled out of town without informing anyone and the neighbors report their absence to authorities. 4.) If a person is indeed dead until a pile of debris, they will give no outward sign of their location (obviously) until they begin to decompose so everything must be picked through by hand. Bottom line...it takes time.

mike2010
Good points.. It just seems like an outrageous number 3 days after the storm... really that much debris still untouched ? Most of that is probably people who just haven't contacted anyone. That's what i'm thinking....since most communication is cut off. still 1500.... almost uncomprehendable. nwohweather
C'mon seriously.. It's not like its 9/11 and their buried under a 100 stories somewhere. If they were littered in trees and other debris , most of those bodies would of been found already. So where did these 1500 bodies go ? Maybe Judgement Day took em away....or was that the day before ? But those were just a couple buildings. This is a ton of square mileage just completely destroyed. When we had an EF4 roll thru here last year it took many many volunteers days to clean up some 40 houses. We're talking hundreds of houses in this case, just no way to help these folks in a fast way, especially considering that many tornadoes rolled thru that little area. Still it's unreal to see that number...122 fatal and 750 injured
dan11295
I posted this on the other thread, Remember after Tuscaloosa 500 were reports missing afterwords, but they were all eventually found except for 5 as I last recall. Mostly I believe it is simply an issue with lack of communication.

Ed Lizard
They may not have had a chance for different groups to compare who are on the lists of the missing, and some people may be double or triple counted. Still not good, but after the first 24 hours, Thank God, the death toll has been only slowly climbing.
WxUSAF
In the recent satellite image...the gray patch in the upper left near the intersection and the other one near the middle of the image...are those clouds?
