congrats to those who had a good storm yesterday! parts of nc and the upstate looked to be getting some decent action. nothing imby

I had a little boomer form up around Jonesboro last night, and move down along and west of I 75. Had a nice lightening show and enough booms to scare the animals, but all I could do is wave as it missed me to the east. I guess folks a few counties west had a nice "heat lightening" show. T

Way off in the distance last night I saw some lightning. My fiance said oh there is heat lightning. I told her it's a myth and there was probably a t-storm around. I looked at the radar and to see the storm was in Jonesboro, the fact I could see it in Marietta was impressive. I thought the storm would have been closer.

Don't get much nicer here for a June day than today.

It's about time we caught a break from experiencing 90+ temperature readings at this hour. It's 83 right now at the house here, which is a lot better than staring at a 93 reading at 1pm...

Appears as though the dynamics will now favor most of GA, western SC, and a good chunk of AL for thunderstorm development today. SBCAPE values are ranging from 3000 to almost 5000 across parts of GA and AL and 1000-2500 for SC with plenty of lift in place. There's also good low/mid level lapse rates currently taking place, which will aid in the usual large hail and strong wind production. Some areas could be hit hard similar to those in NC/SC from yesterday's event.

91 here, dewpoints are at least in the mid 60s so it isn't brutal outside. Hoping for some of that t-storm action today. FFC isn't overly impressed (I like how they say it's too warm for large hail). We'll see.

95 degrees here, but dp is 66 so it's not as unbearable as it was last summer. I think I'd rather have a summer like 2007 that was extremely hot but also not as humid as opposed to a summer like 2010 where we didn't see any extremely hot temps but the humidity was just awful.

My goodness, this humidity is killing me. 83 degrees, 73 dp. Starting to remind me of last summer.

lol

My sister's house has $25,000 in damage - might have shared that before. Baseball size hail shredded their neighborhood. Most siding has yet to be repaired. Sullivan Co. did not have any tornadoes. Having driven through that area though, I'd have to say there may also have been a funnel cloud in their proximity. Their home was hit by the Glad Spring, VA, supercell - just no tornado recorded. In some cases, their window frames are broken. Last week, they had another storm that took their trampoline about 100 yards away.

But yeah, Greene County has been absolutely pounded. I think the number of tornadoes in this area will be almost an unbreakable record in my lifetime. By the way, my sister's place is actually close to the Greene Co. line.

I mean the hail damaged vehicle sales have been crazy. I talked to someone today who got a car w/ $8,000 off the sticker price. Bristol's car lots must have been hit hard. Right now, I just need some relief from the heat. My wife and I had talked about a beach vacation. I think I'm leaning at Maine being my destination or Yellowstone National Park!

Yes, it has been a very active spring in this area for sure.

At this point, I’ve actually lost count of how many supercell thunderstorms that I’ve witnessed this spring, and they’ve all been in the NE Tennessee area. If any county in the US had 5 tornadoes in one night, then that’s pretty amazing regardless of the region. The fact that it happened in my home county (Greene) makes it even more incredible, especially since we aren’t in the most favorable region for tornadoes.

The heat has been the big story recently. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind the heat if it occurred in August, but it has been too hot for this time of year.

This is getting a little ridiculous for me.... Today, we tied or set a record high temperature for the 6th straight day! This will also be the 3rd day in a row we have topped out above 100! Like other posters above me, the best chance for shower activity will be the northern half of GA, eastern AL and parts of South Carolina. We have a nice little CU field developing, with a few of them starting to gain some height so some spots may luck out ... Chattahoochee County in Georgia saw a nice severe thunderstorm yesterday afternoon, but the haze kept me from getting a great view of it, even though I was only about 30 miles away.

Hopefully we get some nice thunderstorm activity going by 6, because I'm tired of saying "It's HOT! Back to you." :(

FFC said the best chance for rain today would be from Columbus and Macon southward, with lesser chances for North GA.

FOR TODAY... EXPECT

THE GREATER CHANCE FOR AFTERNOON AND EVENING THUNDERSTORMS TO OCCUR

ALONG AND SOUTH OF A COLUMBUS TO MACON TO WARRENTON LINE...BUT WILL

ALSO INCLUDE A SLIGHT CHANCE AS FAR NORTH AS THE ATLANTA METRO AREA

Been a really pleasant day here with lower temps(low 80's) and drier air(dewpoint is 42) for a change. The drought is slowly getting worse each day and we need some rain badly. They have increased our pops to 40% for Sunday and hint that they may need to be raised in later forecasts so i'm hoping we see some rain. After that its back into the hot dry oven with no chances of precip.

I love how snowstorm constantly tells mets they are wrong. I have him on ignore but it's like a trainwreck. You don't want to look but you just can't help wonder what will come out of his mouth next.

HAHA! It's no problem, especially now that there is a severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern Georgia.

Hey, Candyman...you ever get to see any hail? Ga. has thrown everything is has at you this year so far, except for summer snow, lol. Tony

Believe it or not... I haven't! :arrowhead::axe:

I have seen video of hail that one of our reporters got. It was pretty awesome, because so much hail fell that it made the surface temperature plummet and created the most dense fog the reporter had ever seen (and she grew up in FL where fog can get pretty thick sometimes). I'm also always at the station covering the severe weather and the station hasn't seen any hail yet...

Well, give it time. I actually don't see much hail around here. I see way more wind and near misses from tornados that I do hail. I've seen baseball hail in Hampton, and golf ball hail in Lovejoy, but I don't remember seeing but maybe one marble hail episode in mby.

Hope you missed the damage in April! T

Nice thunderstorm moving south just southwest of Toccoa, GA

Habersham county, GA

thats the one! just got back on and saw that the one storm actually hit mby lol amazing! hailed for about 20 min, covered the ground (not completely). about quarter sized...big enough to break when they hit the deck (scared the dog senseless lol)

a quick .75" as well  not a lot of wind, some decent lightning, but the hail was the big story :scooter:

For the first time in a while, I actually did not touch 90 for a high here (88 to be exact). Nice breeze every now and then under clear conditions and dewpoint temperatures only in the mid 50s. Terrific day to do some yard work for once (after yesterday's shenanigans with golf ball hailstones and dangerous CG lightning). Couldn't have asked for a better June day than this.:weight_lift:

Glad to see you got some action down your way. That's essentially what it was like up here, though I think I had it just a bit worse than you did yesterday. Looks like the storms are more along the southern sections of AL and GA than further north, which fits with the current thermodynamic parameters that are in place.
