Yep SC is getting this one. There's already been some serious reports and I bet around Union SC here shortly there will be some winds over 60 maybe 70 mph and very large hail. The segment is bowing about as perfect in intensity and proximity from the mountains as it gets. We've had several that looked exactly like that here and got extremely hard hit with downed trees, lightning, etc.

raining so hard I can't see the home next door, winds are high in the trees lucky not at the surface but trees are going down everywhere

that bowing line in Union now is dropping south pretty quickly, so the northern suburbs of Columbia are going to get hit , possibly the whole city.

I never expected anything so severe. Heck there wasn't even a cloud in the sky til 4:00. The line that went severe developed to my NW around 4:30, but it looked like it would miss to my north. It wasn't until 5:15 when a storm developed to the south of the line did I grow more interested. When that particular storm turned due east and I started hearing rumbles of thunder, I had a feeling this one would be special. It was truly spectacular when I saw mammatus outside on the back deck. I've always wanted to see those and finally got the opportunity. It gradually got louder until the storm was knocking on the front door. Now on radar it looked like the storm had weakened some, so I was only expecting Pea sized hail, which is what we got out first. Pea sized hail turned into Pennies then Quarters and finally Half Dollars. The biggest stuff fell for about 3-5 minutes. I had to wait roughly 5 minutes for the continuous cloud to ground lightning to die down. Then I went out and collected some hailstones. I'm thinking they were probably close to golf balls when they fell, but melted a bit before I could get out there.

Here's some images...

Mammatus before the storm. Really cool!

Hail was still bigger than quarters even after 5-10 minutes of melting.

Best. Storm. Ever. :scooter::thumbsup::weight_lift:

Incredibly more storms have fired to my N and NW. You'd think the atmosphere would just be drained, but apparently not. Radar has hail markers as high as Tennis Ball sized. I'll gladly sit this one out and give some excitement to EmersonGA and DixieBlizzard  I've had enough excitement for a few days.

Just had a tremendously large silver-colored CG bolt strike near my house...again! Right before I went out onto the porch to go grab something, I could hear the snap before the sound of thunder crashed, which sounded similar to that of a jet taking off. Btw, I've hit the lucky 7s on this post (777).

Glad you got something interesting for once. Great pics. there. Looks similar to the hail I had during the Thursday storm that hit here producing golf ball sized hail. Posted a pic of it somewhere in this topic. Just now got through experiencing the worst of the storm as the heavier stuff has moved into the Charlotte area now.

Car has a couple bumps in it, and lightning hit a tree about 200 yards away. Other than that we're all good! Thanks for checking...

Edit: :lmao: Another Severe Thunderstorm Warning but I think this one will miss me.

The line is exploding and I think it will sag south and expand. The line keeps developing westward despite the eastward movement. I think there will be time for the southward progression before the storms train too far east of us. Get ready for Round 2!

So, I took the ferns down & sat them on the sidewalk so they could get watered. Hubby ended up chasing them across the yard & my little one's rock wall/slide was blown across the yard into a tree. I have asked the oldest one to not drive back to his apartment in Dahlonega tonight & just stay here with us. I hate for him to drive across the mountains when it's storming!

It rained pretty good and there was lots of wind, thunder & lightning. It's thundering again, so I'm assuming we are about to get round #2.

Had a gust to 40ish...a couple pings off the windows from the small hail....but most importantly, the wonderful sound of rain continues :weight_lift:

HooDamRay!! Down here everything keeps shunting off to the east and missing us, but I've noticed some forming back into Ala. on that bottom line, so maybe, maybe I can get a few drive by drops way down here :) T

I believe it will happen  Hopefully all the ruckus caused by the rolling thunder won't interrupt your beauty sleep

This is some strange weather. We've had no rain at all, and no storms near me, but the wind has been howling.

Lovely, lovely outflow. Brought temps down a good bit, and it got folks to run out and bring in loose-blowing-around-stuff (yay, now if the line actually hits us for real, that's less stuff to end up picking out of my treeline!)

We didn't get anything in the earlier line. Hoping for rain.

Lol... I think I could give up a nights worth of beautification for hours of thunder rain :) I sure hope you have the "sight". ...that line does look promising! T
