Big storm to my west. Marker for hail to 1.75" in diameter and I can already hear rumbles. May slide NW of me though. It'll be close

That storm has made a turn to the east and even ESE now. It was headed NE earlier. I think you are roughly on the purple dot and I'm at the red dot. I honestly believe this storm could impact both of us. If not we have a nice complex coming in behind it. The entire line is drifting kinda ESE now also while the individual storms were moving NE. Kinda weird but all in all I think that cell will impact you.

I'm like a mile west of there but thats close enough haha. The whole complex looks to be sliding ESE. Getting louder here and the sky is very dark to my west.

Really hoping we can get a good thunderstorm here accompanied with a lot of rain, really sucks having to use MRX's radar.

The line entering Southwestern NC, near Cullowhee, from Tennessee just got warned.

yeah we're too far away from CAE, FCX and MRX. GSP's is perfect to cover us. CLT terminal doppler will cover us when in range

The location of the GSP radar has always been of great debate among the folks in the Western Piedmont...

Hmm, i know about the mtn. counties being hard to cover, esp. over the valleys, but where else do you mean? Anyway, its going to be interesting to see how the cooler, much drier air affects the complex once it gets just east of the mountains. There's a good chance of a triple point forming somwhere near Athens to GSP later tonight. If that happens, a major bow line will develop for someone east of it. GFS had it a few days ago as well, so we'll see.

Hail in Rockmart, GA

Reports I got were of broken car windows, pretty serious hail.

thats HUGE. Just seen the tops...some in TN and GA are over 50K feet. With the boundary in place and strong updrafts, its no wonder there's some big hail. Watch out anywhere along the boundary this evening.

Back in the early 1990's when the federal gov't consolidated the National Weather Service Forecast Offices...there was a lot of concern among those in the Charlotte Metro Area because they were located in a gap between Columbia, Raleigh and GSP NEXRAD's...I specifically remember Eric Thomas being vocal about how the radar could miss out on showing the most accurate info for Charlotte.

The Terminal Radars that were installed a few years ago have really been beneficial to those in the immediate Charlotte area...

If you live in the Boiling Springs area north of Saxon, SC I'd keep my eye on that area of storms that are developing. A large area of severe thunderstorms have been erupting. Flat Rock is getting slammed as I type this with the hail core indicating max size to be around 2.5" with a 44k top, moving quickly at 54mph. I wonder how they will fair once it gets further east and see whether or not storms are able to hold on just long enough to dump something along the Southern NC Piedmont and Upstate SC.

Yeah I remember that, but seems to me GSP is close enough to most of Meck County to cover decently but does get less of course toward the edges.

Anybody else noticed that the NWS GSP office is AWOL? The last couple discussions have been written by CAE and now they're writing the Severe thunderstorm warnings???

GSP AWIPS is down today due to a system upgrade, therefore they can not issue products. Columbia is backup when this sort of thing happens.
