I am with you my warm blooded brother :sun: Things are looking up on the Treasure Coast as well after one more night of horse crap cold. All of my palms will need to be replaced as it is. If this kind of cold keeps up every season I will import Oak trees from the NE

lu.jpg

LOL.. I hear that, The last 2 years my Palms have taken a real beating also. Oak trees do sound good. I am really looking forward to mid to upper 70's . Looking at the long range GFS it still looks like the bulk of any cold air will stay north of the state for awhile. :scooter:

WOW!!!!! Temp hit 24 at MCO last night according to the most recent Public Info Statement. KORL, however only hit 30.

When did MCO hit 24? I could not find it in the official obs. Maybe I am missing something. It had to be only briefly if it did.

Wow.. I missed that also. We had another heavy frost episode and the temp at my house in Lakeland hit 28 according to my weather station.

Coldest December ever for Tallahassee, 3rd coldest month - from NWS Tallahassee Discussion:

.THE AVERAGETEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH AT TALLAHASSEE WAS 44.1 DEGREES WHICH IS9.6 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. EVEN THOUGH FRIDAY WAS MUCH WARMER (WITH ALOW OF 41 AND A HIGH OF 75)...ADDING IN THIS AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF58 DEGREES DID NOT RAISE THE MEAN MONTHLY TEMPERATURE ENOUGH TOPREVENT THE RECORD FROM BEING BROKEN. THEREFORE...THE FINAL AVERAGEMONTHLY TEMPERATURE FOR DECEMBER 2010 IN TALLAHASSEE IS 44.6DEGREES. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 45.2 WHICH WAS SET IN1963...AND IS ALMOST ALSO A FULL 1 DEGREE COLDER THAN THE MEMORABLYCOLD MONTH OF DECEMBER 1989. FURTHERMORE...THIS MONTH IS NOW THETHIRD COLDEST ON RECORD FOR TALLAHASSEE...WHICH IS ONLY SURPASSED BYAVERAGES OF 43.9 FROM JANUARY 1977...AND 44.3 SET BACK IN JANUARY OF1981.

The average low at the airport for the month was 30.2

Some great reading here regarding the Dec-10 arctic outbreak and the 010 climate data. Especially the Miami discussion. Goes into a lot of detail.

Some of the data is repeated several times so just skip over what you already read.

I thought this really stood out from the Miami discussion.

A PRONOUNCED SHIFT IN THE ENSO (EL NINO SOUTHERN OSCILLATION) PHASE

WAS NOTED IN 2010, FROM A STRONG EL NINO, OR WARM, PHASE TO A

BORDERLINE STRONG LA NINA, OR COLD, PHASE. WHILE THIS MAY APPEAR AT

FIRST GLANCE TO BE A KEY CONTRIBUTOR TO THE TEMPERATURE EXTREMES

NOTED ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA DURING 2010, IT IS BELIEVED THAT IT WAS

THE STRONGLY NEGATIVE NAO AND AO, NOT THE ENSO PHASE, WHICH

CONTRIBUTED TO THE COLD TEMPERATURES IN EARLY AND LATE 2010. A

STRONGLY PHASED NAO/AO OPERATING ON SHORTER TIME SCALES CAN OVERRIDE

THE LONGER-TERM ENSO PHASE.

A nice MCS is pushing across the Panhandle/Northern Peninsula.

Yes, very nice . Of course it would stay North of me , just a little light early morning rain. It's been awhile since a decent boomer has cropped up. I am hoping we can get a decent Gulf system this winter for a little active weather.

The last few days have been unbelievable. Warm during the day w/ no humidity and just a hint of being cool at night. LOL, sorry.

Alright Folks -

It's time to stop the "it's 80 IMBY" thing and look what is going down model-wise -

Either -

We get slammed with another deep freeze in a few days for a few days

OR

The cold air stays a few miles north and slips out east.

Anyone with met knowledge/insights would be appreciated.

Have not strayed over here in a little while but was expecting to see more talk about the Fla snow from last week. I have confirmed reports of snow in Ocala, Jax, just north of St Augustine (where a light accumulation was reported) and a pic of the snow in Gainesville as provided by the Gainesville newspaper. I was in PA at the time and Gainesville saw more snow than I did!

Ocala, while I didn't get as much as you ,my rain gauge collected 1.46 inches of rain last night and around 5 A.M. a T-storm came through. The local wx guys are saying the brunt of the cold air should stay North of us in central Florida the next week or so. Later next week the GFS shows the cold air could get pretty close to Florida so it will be interesting to see how that trends. I'm just glad we got some much needed rain !!!

Looks like Met Larry Cosgrove thinks Florida could be in line for some heavy to severe thunderstorms with the upcoming system. I hope he is right. It's been awhile since we had any good boomers!!!.

That's strange. Jax,Tampa, & Melbourne discussions have no mention of any severe weather. But then again Wednesday nights rainfall sure came out of nowhere. I do like the fact they all keep the cold air up north though.

Looks like a mild week temperature wise.

Yea, your right. I think LC over did it on the severe threat. I have been scouring the AFD'S and not only is there no thunderstorm talk let alone severe t-storm talk, the Tampa AFD isn't to excited about the rain amounts either. Oh well, like you said at least the bulk of the cold air will stay north of us!!
