ocala
Yea.. the Pops have been bumped up for the Tampa area as well. It will be interesting to see if some part of Northern Florida reports some snow/frozen precip overnight Sunday into Monday Morning. Here's what Jax had to say about that. THERE WILL BE VERY COLD AIR COINCIDING WITH WRAP-AROUND CLOUDINESS SUN NIGHT OVER AT LEAST OUR SE GA ZONES. AFTER LOOKING AT MODEL SOUNDINGS...IT APPEARS THE DEPTH OF THE MOISTURE WILL BE VERY SHALLOW WITH BONE DRY AIR ABOVE AND FAIRLY DRY AIR BELOW THE MOIST LAYER. IN ADDITION...LIFT SHOULD BE VERY MINIMAL. SO...AT THIS POINT NOT EXPECTING ANY FROZEN PRECIP. HOWEVER...HAVE INCLUDED SOME MIXED PRECIP OVER THE COASTAL WATERS SUN NIGHT AND EARLY MON WHERE MOISTURE WILL BE DEEPER AND LOWER ATMOSPHERE WILL BE A BIT MORE UNSTABLE. MJW155
Let's hope things start warming up after this next cold snap.. Looks like a couple nights in the 20's for Lakeland early next week. I am ready for summer. We have 10 months of 90 degree weather and you want summer already? Oh believe me I get the whole moving down to Florida thing. I moved here from NJ 2 years ago. But after dealing w/ 90 degree weather from March to November, I welcome the cool spells. They never last more than a few days and you can still do outdoor activities.

Meh, if I had to guess, Miami gets into the low 40's and west of Miami sees 30's. I'll be surprised if I get lower than 35 in Coral Springs and I'm about 40 miles north of Miami. Akeem the African Dream
Tonight will be an interesting freeze event to unfold, but watch out for tomorrow night. IMHO Tuesday could be the more damaging of the two nights. No doubt outlying areas are going under the freezing mark tonight but these advective type freezes most times have a hard time dropping MCO to under 32. I don't believe we set a record tonight in Orlando. Record is 28. Tuesday night however should be a different story. Record is 33 and as it looks now I believe MCO will get to at least 30. In short I have become a cold weather wimp. You are dealing with much colder wx than SF. Most of us get that Anyway, this is my second fall / winter here and I am already getting thinner blood. I like cool shots as well, but not ones that deep six my Christmas Palms. The upper / mid 20's below for me suck. Give me the mid to upper 40's for lows and upper 60's for highs and that is the perfect cool shot.
daddylonglegs
Looking at the numbers/dates, this seems a lot like the 1962 cold outbreak. I guess you could throw in 12/13/1934 could also throw in 12/12/1937 Just looking throw some data, and man it has been cold in S. Florida in the past. The 30s, 40s, 50s, and early 60s look nasty. daddylonglegs
Really won't know how bad this is until its over Find this interesting: Event date: Freeze of February 2-9, 1835 Summary of event: According to Warren Johnson, Meteorologist In Charge in 1958, the freeze of 1835 was the most severe of all historically significant freezes in the state of Florida. During this freeze, the St. Johns River was frozen, “several rods from the shore,” and people were able to walk a distance from the shore. Many citrus and other fruit trees were killed to the ground, never to grow again, when temperatures reached as low as 1ºF in Charleston and 8ºF in Jacksonville. A Florida gentleman told a newspaper that the state, “appeared as desolate as if a fire had swept over it,” after the severe freeze of that winter season. According to Florida Citrus Mutual, this freeze was so severe that it is considered an impact freeze. This indicates that the freeze, “annihilate[d] entire groves across the state, killing both mature and young citrus trees, while causing a profound economic impact on the citrus industry and… prompting growers to replant farther south.” This freeze ended attempts to grow citrus in southern Georgia, southeast South Carolina, and northern Florida.
