This from Jville this afternoon. I really thought January was closer to normal. I looked at my numbers here at the house and sure enough the mean was 52.8 which was 5.3 below.

For the second consecutive month a negative phase of the Arctic

oscillation kept much of the forecast area under the influence of

colder than normal air-masses from the north. January average

temperatures ran from 3 to 7 degrees below normal at all the climate

locations across southeast Georgia and northeast Florida and all

ranked in the top 20 coldest january's on record...

Well. January is going to finish above normal for Precip here in Lakeland Florida. The normal is 2.45 and we had about 5.5 in the rain bucket for the month. Pretty good to get that in a La Nina winter.

Right there with you at 5.6. Looks like things will stay wet this week.

Wow.. I really thought January was closer to normal Temperature wise also. It does look like Feb will start off wet and the GFS the last few runs has been showing another system or 2 bringing rain next week and beyond as well.

Man another gulf low to swing across the area tomorrow. This a La Nina winter right?

Over 7.50 inches so far the past month and a half. Not complaining but certainly didn't expect this.

Also with all this rain everything is turning green. Looks a lot better then brown that's for sure.

Yes; I know what you mean, this hasn't been a typical La Nina winter at all. This little blurb from the Tampa AFD today talks about some changes that appear to be on the way that should bring some dry and warmer weather to Florida.

LOOKING

FURTHER OUT...WITH THE ARCTIC OSCILLATION BEING HIGHLY POSITIVE

FOR THE LAST WEEK OR SO WE SHOULD SEE WEATHER MORE TYPICAL OF LA

NINA WITH TEMPERATURES ABOVE NORMAL AND RAINFALL BELOW NORMAL FROM

THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK THROUGH AT LEAST THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND.

Gonna be in St. Augustine this weekend. Hope you Florida brethren make it nice and warm for me :sun:

This from Jville today about the weekend. Looks like you picked a good one.

Long term...

high pressure builds in for the weekend with little chance of

precipitation and temperatures about 5 to 10 degrees below expected for

this time of year.

Looking at the latest GFS run and there isn't any cold weather to be found for Florida in the extended range. Lets hope this pans out.

Climatological speaking this does begin the upturn in temps. Not so much in the highs but more the lows. We've been below freezing the past two nights and am sitting at 29 right now.

To suffice, bring it on!

Just might have to ditch this thread and start a Spring one.:sizzle:

Yep, think it's getting close to a spring thread. I hope we can get a decent gulf storm later this month or in March to tide us over for some decent storms until the rainy season action starts!!:scooter:

  • 2 weeks later...

Beautiful late winter weather today, very warm and a bit humid, but not oppressive yet. Shallow cumulus all day.

Evening visible satellite gives us a nice view of the dissipating diurnal cumulus and Space Shuttle Discovery's final launch from Cape Canaveral:

The clouds kept me from seeing the shuttle today. The weather has been nice and looks like it will continue for at least another week or so.

Definitely loving this pattern... all the flowers are already blooming, which usually doesn't happen until mid-late March. Forecast to be 85 today, 86 tomorrow.

Yes, and even after the front comes through Tuesday highs will be in the Mid to Upper 70's . I am ready for the Rainy season and some storms though. This weather gets pretty boring. :mapstorm:

Rainy season doesn't start until June.

Till then, pollen then dry then fire.

I'll wager close to 100º in May.

After that - T'storms and grass fungus until October.

Bring back winter ......

No winter for me. The warmth and the storms are why I moved down here. The Pollen is high that's for sure and we have had a few wildfires in the area with many more on the way I'm sure.

Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only one that enjoys fall/winter in Florida. Once it's hot, it's hot until October. The later it hits, the better. I don't mind 90 degrees, but it sucks when it's 95 w/ 70 dewpoints for 6 months.

I wish it would last longer:):). I found the longer I have lived down here the more I enjoy the heat and the less I am able to tolerate cold!!

Depends where you are. The rainy season can start in early May and has started in late April before (1995 South FL) which is just 8 weeks away!!!

The dry season weather is awesome and I love cool / cold shots just as much as the next guy just as long as it does not threaten my palms, but, come on. Day after day after day of no shot at changeable weather flat out sucks after awhile. I can't wait for the heat and numerous t-storms with the threat of tropical action ... and then, I will look forward to the CoC again. It's a "cool" cycle ...:bike: The dry season began in early early October last year with the exit of pathetic Nicole. This was the earliest start to the DS since 1997 and no wonder some of us have had enough of "great weather"

With this said ..... tomorrow has the best potential for a few storms in quite awhile!

I do understand what you mean but I am greedy.

I do admit some cooler weather around x-mas is nice. It does feel a little strange hanging x-mas lights outside if it's 80 + but after that I could handle 11 months of heat and storms.

Like you said things can start happening in May and many years May is a transition month and the storms can start cranking or a trough gets stuck across the state bringing the storms.Oh well, I will rough it for a couple more months.
