..PRELIMINARY SURVEY RESULTS FOR KANKAKEE COUNTY

A SURVEY TEAM CONSISTING OF AN NWS REPRESENTATIVE AND THE EMERGENCY MANAGER OF KANKAKEE COUNTY VISITED THE AREA AROUND ST. ANNE AND HOPKINS PARK TO INVESTIGATE REPORTS OF DAMAGE FROM A POSSIBLE TORNADO EARLIER THIS MORNING. THESE RESULTS ARE CONSIDERED PRELIMINARY AND MORE INFORMATION MAY BE ADDED AS IT BECOMES AVAILABLE.

KANKAKEE COUNTY:

** CONFIRMED EF1 TORNADO **

MAXIMUM RATING: EF1

PATH LENGTH: APPROXIMATELY 6 MILES

MAXIMUM PATH WIDTH: APPROXIMATELY 50 YARDS

START LOCATION: EAST OF ST. ANNE ALONG 7000S JUST WEST OF 12753E.

END LOCATION: NORTHEAST OF HOPKINS PARK NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF 2500 S 16000 E.

TIME: FROM 904 AM TO 912 AM CDT BASED ON RADAR ESTIMATES.

THE SURVEY TEAM REPORTED TREE DAMAGE AT MULTIPLE LOCATIONS ALONG THE PATH INCLUDING SNAPPED HARDWOODS. ADDITIONAL DAMAGE INCLUDED SNAPPED POWER POLES...ROOF AND SHINGLE DAMAGE TO HOMES...OVERTURNED CAMPERS...AND AN ATTACHED GARAGE REMOVED FROM A HOME THAT WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. THE NATURE OF THIS DAMAGE WAS CONSISTENT WITH AN EF1 TORNADO...WITH WINDS OF 100 TO 110 MPH.

My dad just got back from a drive outside...said the flooding here is the worst he's seen it in 20 years of living here. Its subsided a bit now, but he said out neighbors literally had a 4 foot wide river running down their lawn. Crazy, wish I had seen it.
