LocoAko
Hey guys! I know you're probably all so sick of these advice threads, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a good P&S to ask for for Christmas (ie: not too expensive - otherwise why not a DSLR at this rate?). Jeff (PennMan) has an older version of this, and I've been very impressed with it, particularly with how well it exposes the sky. http://www.amazon.co...91240720&sr=8-1 I know Lumix isn't necessarily one of the "big" names in cameras, though, and was curious what you guys thought would be the best bet for a very reasonable price. I don't need the best camera out there, but my Canon Powershot A570IS just isn't doing too well these days anymore (http://www.amazon.co...91241142&sr=1-3). Thanks! Blue Ridge
I cannot speak for that particular model, but I have never met an owner of a Panasonic Lumix camera with a complaint.
spiffybeth
if thats the camera you want, then you should get it! this is on cnet though they did give it 3.5 stars: "Shooting performance is pretty average for its class, though its shutter lag is a bit long. The camera starts up and captures a shot in 2.3 seconds. The shot-to-shot time is 2.1 seconds without the flash. Use the flash and you're waiting an average of 4.5 seconds between shots. The shutter lag in bright conditions--how quickly the camera captures an image after the shutter-release button is pressed--is 0.6 second in bright conditions and 1 second in dim lighting. Those aren't great numbers if you're trying to shoot a moving subject. On the upside, the full-resolution continuous burst mode captures at a quick 1.7 frames per second." http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/panasonic-lumix-dmc-zs7/4505-6501_7-33978853.html#reviewPage1
