Deck Pic
Wes has certainly mentioned it among others....the NAO correlation in the winter is the opposite of the summer....the anomalies flip......Last 4 summers have been somewhat to sharply -NAO in the means....and thus hot summers....April was ridiculously positive, but May so far is neutral/negative looking.....hard to buck persistence...I think those going for a below normal summer are in deep trouble, though we may get 1 month to go below....thoughts? Deck Pic
one thing about the -NAO summers...the positive height anomaly is further west and thus the correlation in our backyard is not as strong...I should probably shrink the sample a bit
usedtobe
Matt, the correlation is not real strong for us but is strong across the south and some of the heat usually gets to us. I'd be interested in the frequency of 95 degree days based on NAO being minus 1 versus plus one. I'm too lazy to do the stats.

Nikolai
Given this year is a close match to the -NAO summers & the correlation between those summers & cold Januarys, I'd say that this January looks like it has the potential to deliver below normal temperatures. The other months in the above series look like toss-ups.
