ag3
I'm at 90.3 now. But it still feels awful because the dews are through the roof. Its tolerable now. Strong winds from ocean and a little cooler.
Cfa
You literally cannot breathe outside. You really can't, this never really happened to me before. I love heat (A LOT) but this isn't nice at all because of the air quality. It is nasty outside. Back down to 94 after topping out at 97.

winterwarlock
I hit 97 IMBY today, the worst day so far this season in terms of heat/humidity cutting lawns but I did notice it did feel a tad cooler by 3 but around noon it was pretty bad. Still this is what summer is all about to me. I love these days but particularly love the steamy nights like last night and feeling the contrast between inside air conditioning and the thick air outside. A-L-E-X
This is why the 2005 summer was so awful. The dewpoints were consistently in the 70s with minimal breaks where the dew would fall to 65-68.Last summer had dews in the 50s and 60s with only a few days reaching 70 or above. Agreed-- I would much rather have a true heat summer like last year. That's pure heat.

pazzo83
I have a pretty high heat tolerance but today was rough. Mid/upper 90s with 70 dews is pushing it. I wonder if we'll see any dews in the 80s this summer.

Well, it being 95-100 doesn't make it feel any better, lol. So looking forward to that 72 on Saturday.
bluewave
... Record high temperature set at Newark NJ... A record high temperature of 102 degrees was set at Newark NJ today at 359 PM. This breaks the old record of 99 set in 2008. This looks like Newark tied the highest temperature for June with 1994,1993,1952,and 1943 also having 102 degree readings. jm1220
You literally cannot breathe outside. It was ungodly atrocious around Grand Central today-I can definitely attest to that. It really was like getting blasted by a hot oven. It felt just as bad as it did last July when it hit 103. Maybe the lack of concrete around Central Park keeps it cooler there. nzucker
The AQ is just absolutely horrendous today. I felt sick coming into work this AM. I am a healthy 23-year old with no respiratory issues, but I had some minor trouble breathing today. Ground-level ozone was awful with a thick, smoggy haze shrouding hills and buildings. Just a disgusting day, really unhealthy and uncomfortable. I was feeling sick walking around Tarrytown, where I believe the temperature reached 96F. I have a pretty high heat tolerance but today was rough. Mid/upper 90s with 70 dews is pushing it. I wonder if we'll see any dews in the 80s this summer. To hear you admit this is remarkable. You are always rooting for the heat. My Td reached a maximum of 78F today, just brutal. High was 93.9F in Dobbs Ferry. NAM has near 90 temps again tomorrow NW flow will warm us up but I think cloud cover will be an issue for widespread 90s. Maybe EWR hits 90F but the local forecast for my area is around 84F, which seems reasonable. 850s are dropping rapidly, and we have a system approaching from the west with a cloud deck entering the Upton CWA. Again this is all about humidity and has very little to do with temperature. People said last July was more comfortable than this, which proves my point. I love pure heat, not humidity. As far as I'm concerned humidity is just a form of air pollution.

Yup, that is brutal. No two ways around it. Any time the dewpoint is above 75, that is oppressive.

nzucker
Getting warm again here in Tarrytown. Here's what my home station shows: FAIR 75.2/70 N@8mph Thinking it's a little warmer in downtown Tarrytown where I work. Just took my break from subbing, and it was quite muggy out there for lunch. earthlight
Amazing to think the average high is still 78 here...we are at 88 right now which is 10 degrees above average. Yesterday we were 24 degrees above...Wednesday 22 degrees above. Incredible stretch of above normal temperatures driven by the heat release which first showed a glimmer of it's presence on models weeks ago. It's not over yet...either..we will revisit this thread sooner than later.
