A-L-E-X
I'm sure it is cyclic and related to our longer-term trends, like oceanic and solar cycles. And note that we were in quite the snow drought when we were on the weaker end of the AMO cycle when we were averaging like 6 tropical storms a season lol...(the infamous 70s, 80s and early 90s.) There's probably quite a few global variables (as well as extraglobal....like the solar cycles and even magnetic influences) that work to reinforce each other cyclically. uncle W
Yeah this has been one helluva run man. Any comparable sequence of years in the past catching your eye? 1993 and 1995 come to mind...they are not consecutive though...1993-95 were hot summers...The winters from 1993-96 produced at least one KU storm...This run will end like the 1990's run and the 2003-06 run with a dud like 1996-97 and 2006-07...Will we get three straight great winters? It's becoming the norm lately...

I told you Andrew-- high temps with low humidity is awesome weather. It's not 100 degrees which sucks, it's the humidity.
Sundog
At this point I would be disappointed if I don't clip 100. I am going to use LGA as my station. I might have to depend on another late evening surge in temps to get it, but I don't see that happening this time.

I can't remember any day last year that had temps this high with dewpoints approaching 70. I'm having trouble breathing with the poor air quality, just very uncomfortable. High of 93.9F, currently 87.9/76 with the sky obscured by haze.

This is why the 2005 summer was so awful. The dewpoints were consistently in the 70s with minimal breaks where the dew would fall to 65-68.Last summer had dews in the 50s and 60s with only a few days reaching 70 or above. Nikolai
What a joke. The midtown PWS has a high of 99.5 so far, Hunter College/UES: 97.3. I don't think it's inaccurate... it definitely doesn't feel like it's anywhere near the upper 90s on the Upper West and it got extremely hazy outside. ag3
It feels like a bloody furnace around Grand Central. Central Park and LGA are very close. When they are similar, they are accurate. Take Central Park and Newark and thats your temp in the heat sauna of Midtown. Most PWSs are inaccurate and affected by bad placement (sun/shade, too close to a building, subway, etc.). Nikolai
It feels like a bloody furnace around Grand Central. I was in Midtown yesterday and it was horrible, I can imagine. It's furthest away from both rivers and smack in the middle of the most concrete etc in the world, so it's just a huge heat trap. I'd bet spots in Midtown didn't get under 85 last night, and I'm certain the temperature in the canyons is 100-105 right now (the wind does not help on days like today, it makes it so. much. worse.). Yup. I was in temps around 110 once a few years back and there was like a 15 or 20 mph wind and I was telling myself please god make the wind stop.
